Hi
Im fairly new to this form of crafting, worked mostly with papercraft before (Wordworksgames, fatdragon games). Now I guess I try to make some generic floor tyles. As we often explore old catacombs and graves I really like to make some corridor or walls that have niche with graves at the side and pondering how to do it with the 2.5D System.
I guess the way to go is to add a a extra wide Edge as wall and glue a extra layer of cardboard with the niche cutouts on top. Then I would add some things as remains of the dead (paper towels with withe glue as shrouds, pieces of matches as bones, small pelletss as skull).
Have someone done something similiar?
Maybe this could be a good idea for a crafting video?

I would craft something more modular, to spare yourself crafting a whole series of tiles that only have one purpose.
Perhaps a two level niche that can rest on the walls for regular tiles, ala Scotty's Magic Mouth video or DMG's video on secret doors. Same concept, except rather than craft the doors, craft the two level niche, and place your bones as desired. That way, you can place them where you want, and forego placing them if you want to make the same tile used for typical ruins.
I've been toying with this alot for my own dungeons, but haven't decided to make them as of yet. My biggest issue is skeletal remains, but your suggestion of shrouds is definately cool. Now I just need to wait for DMG to show us how hemakes those splendiferous wire crafted skeletons...

Thats a good idea. Without looking at the magic mouth/secret door video I think you mean making the niche a seperate tile that overhang the border/wall of the corridor tile. Yes, that definitly better then making special corridor tiles. I like it.
If I find time I have to give it a try. As Yet I have started only with Some 3D-cardboard based ruins and a 2.5D cave tile. :-)

Make some single square (I do 6cm squares, others do 2in, etc.) single wall pieces, then make some single square three wall pieces. Then when you're laying your hallways, at points where there's a niche, you'd put it together like this:

I have made my first catacomb tiles. Im only starting with this, my last miniature painting is more then ten years ago. In some places my lack of experience is clearly visible. But im really happy with my dead:-) I went with a specialised corridor tile. I make it larger, so I have a border to place my catacombs. I took a single corrugation cardboard as rised border and place a double corrugation cardboad as niche wall. I have some problems with warping along the long axis of corrugation. In this page the warping between the niches is visible In the background some rubble. The brown blob is hotglue, it should be some earth, but it lacks textrue. maybe I should try to glue sand over it. Detail of the dead. I should have take care that it looks like he have more legs. Or knee raised like the dead squat. But this looks like he has no legs. :-) Here is my second tile, niches on both sides, and more background stuff. rubble in action, the brown "earth" need some more texture.

That's pretty cool! Yes, I will be doing a future video on burial mise en scene as there is a high demand for it. However the current video list runs 500 or so...

The little corpses are great, very creepy. I can see a piece like this really building an atmosphere of dread.

I think this forum needs a "Double Like" button!
BTW, how did you do the webs, are they just hot glue? If so, I would love to see a short video on how you achieved that effect.

The webs are a lot of patience and a lot of mess. :-) I worked here with UHU glue, out of a old tube. Around the nozzle I have usually some half dried residue. I smeared this thick glue on my thump and index finger and open and close this finger so the tacky glue make thin threads between the fingers. This Threads I smear at the edges of the wall and corpse. Half of the time this threads only glue at the fingers or doesnt look right. :-) (You see at the second picture at the ground shiny areas, where i touch the ground) If Im satisfied with the look I start painting it with several layers of withe color and withe glue, to make it more durable. I covered the area where the glue threads glue to the top of the wall with grey color, I dont know how good it withstand play, especially the fine threads at the skull of one of the corpses.
BTW, the skulls are little wood pearls covered in a thin layer of structur paste (more to close the hole). The bodys are aluminiumfoil, covered with structur paste and colored withe with brown patches. Then I took a piece of Toilet paper and wrap it around the body, color it withe and drybrush it brown and ochre. The corpse with the sword have a piece of toothpick as arm bone sticking out of the shroud.
The flask at the feet of one corpses is the same pearl as the skulls with a little wood jamed in the hole and covered with hotglue. I Guess next time I try structur paste, too.

Really good work, I think you are starting back into painting with a bang! Can't wait to see what else you try, and your skills being tested.. A+ for this one.

Very cool idea. 2.5D can easily incorporate many ideas like this.
