I could use some help on an upcoming encounter. I need a swamp... Any suggestions on how to lay this out... Pics of anything you may have done. I am going to get some cloth for the swamp itself, I figure some brownish color.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I really like swamps. You can craft the cardboard extra thick and remove cutout pieces to demarcate the boggy areas (so the minis are waist-deep in relation to the "land"). Plus, really creepy trees, and if you make one that looks terrible by accident, well, it still looks like a swamp tree!

Yes the extra thick cardboard would allow for a depth change. You could put an old piece of hand towel painted greenish with some gloss medium on it to represent water pools. Of course you must have the spooky trees! Possibly areas of higher elevation. I realize its a swamp but many of the trees would be in areas of relative dryness. The ground that holds the trees is usually is dryer than the surrounding area if the ground gets too soaked the tree falls kinda makes it easy to decide where to place the trees! (I lived near the Everglades for 20 years so I have seen many Swamps!)

Brownish cloth with some plant stands and the odd tree would be perfect. You could have checks if non swamp dwelling PCs fight in it as native creatures would try and get PCs stuck.

You could use tp and lay it across branches spray it down with water and glue then shred it to mimic Spanish moss.

Originally being from Florida it not a swamp to me until you see the moss hanging down lol. (Speaking of which I'm missing Florida right now sitting here in 2 degree weather.)

Tree and plant roots can make lovely twisted tree trunks! Hemp or Manilla rope can also be used for tree trunks if they are untwisted a bit, and glued to keep their shape.

It is just paint. Probably with an air brush. He has been at this since for a long time. I have seen people do similar things with those kids rubber mats.. though they require more prep to hide the texture..
