I wonder if you could use mask latex and tp to make a rollable battle mat or would the tp make it rigid.

From what I have read on TheMiniaturesPage.com's forums, the latex caulk-on-canvas allows the whole to be rolled up, and put away for storage, without damage when unrolled for the next game. No idea about how TP would affect it. Try a small sample for experimentation?... Cheers!

That's what I understand too sgtslag. If this darn cold, wet weather would stop I'd like to give this a go. One of my found objects a few months back was a 4 foot wide roll of canvas.

As far as mask latex it's far better than even latex cault so I know that would be great and tp might be ok I've use those two to make scar effects or zombie skin on make up jobs. So having done the cave tiles using tp and glue I figured liquid latex and tp would make a good flexible mat.

I've never used mask latex (or any liquid latex product for that matter) but I've no doubt that liquid mask latex is a better product. I just presumed that mask latex is (probably) more expensive than the latex caulk method (3-4 tubes of latex and a good amount of canvas from a fabric store should be less than $15.) That said, I hope you'll post results if you run a test. Always looking for new and different ways to do things! How expensive is the mask latex that you use and how much do you think you'd need to make, say, a 3 by 3 mat? By the way, if you ever want to post a tutorial for mask making or using mask latex for the make up jobs you mentioned I'd be very interested to see that! Cheers, MM

I just may do a tutorial or two closer to Halloween. It can be expensive one trick I do is go to the Halloween stores just after Halloween and stock up on quarts. It's a lot cheaper after Halloween but as far as how much I'm not sure till I try it.

Will mask/liquid latex endure over time? I saw a post on TMP about using liquid latex for making rivers and roads; one poster commented that it disintegrates within a year, or two? The caulk is guaranteed to last for 25 years. Just curious about liquid latex's longevity. Cheers!

Back about three or four generations of game table technology I used to print out custom maps for different campaign setting items on large sheets of paper, or else tape several pages together, and then laminate the whole thing with clear shelving paper. The result was a nearly indestructible map that could be rolled up, written on with dry or wet erase markers and could even be printed on both sides and flipped for different areas. I had one goblin lair that was 4 FEET by 8 FEET.

I like to rip the graphics from the PDF, enlarge them so they're to scale with the minis then print them on 11x17 paper (I use a Mac program called Razor to tile them and print them.) Torward the end it the maps just got ridiculously huge (typically the scale changed to 1in = 10ft.) For smaller PFS campaigns, I prefer to print, mount on foam, and laminate, but I've decided to try out the 2.5D for the next few. Cheers, MM

Yeah, the goblin lair map was actually quite famous in our group for a long time. I covered the entire map with brown paper and cut out the paper to reveal the areas explored. We played at our local game store so we actually had an audience as we played. When we finished the campaign, I hung it up on my game room wall. At some point we moved and I must have lost it in the move, I really hate that I lost that map. But since I had it printed at Kinkos it actually cost me a lot more money than I expected and that was one of the main things that convinced me to build a digital gaming table to display my maps.
Really do hate losing that map. It was like a giant work of art.

I saw the battle mat vid by Chung and thought it was a really good idea. Now I just need to get a hold of the materials and create a mat. I'd be interested in seeing the results of using TP on a roll up mat dmj.
