You could make a 2.5 square room and put square posts in each corner. On the ceiling tile you make it the same dimensions as the floor and cut the corners out so the ends that stick out are slightly longer that the distance between the posts...this way the post will flex back slightly and hold the ceiling in place...which you put in once the PC's trigger the trap.
The ceiling tile of course will have toothpicks sticking through it for the spikes...I sketched it out and took a pic, but don't know how to post it on a reply

It really depends on the object you want to create really.
If its a drop down ceiling trap, no need to represent this. Tell your PC's if the see the trap or not. If not, and they enter trap trigger zone, then drop the tile with spikes on them from above. Or the block. Or whatever.
If you want dangling cages, I'd rely on DMscotty's floating artifact video for inspiration. If you want nooses, or smaller items that would be hard to dangle without having bottpm support that can be hidden away...well, then you have to get creative. I might suggest creating a removable/ modular wall panel with a fishing line or two connected at the top, and run along to another wall placed at the opposite end. Then you can hook things that have minimal weight to the fishing line to make it appeat that it is hanging from above
