Hi everyone. Having always been interested in table top games, but not having anyone else in my area that does that sort of thing, I thought I would never have a chance to really get into gaming. Well, about two weeks ago, I stumbled across a video by DM Scotty whilst perusing you-tube. I must admit, I'm a faithful follower now. I have been collecting materials and playing around with things untill i realised there is nowhere within a decent travel radius to get miniatures. So, with online shopping not being an option, and being flat broke to boot, I decided to try and build my own game, and minis. Here is my first attempt at said minis. Cheap plastic toy figures. i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz239/ssiikk66/2013-12-27214611.jpg?t=1388641406The chosen few! i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz239/ssiikk66/2013-12-27214702.jpg?t=1388641447All your base are belong to us! i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz239/ssiikk66/2013-12-27214730.jpg?t=1388641468Glued to the base and textured. i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz239/ssiikk66/2013-12-27224524.jpg?t=1388641497Stuck to a sacrificial broken drumstick for priming. i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz239/ssiikk66/2013-12-27225631.jpg?t=1388641438Primed! i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz239/ssiikk66/2013-12-27231150.jpg?t=1388641427El Fin! i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz239/ssiikk66/2013-12-29165850.jpg?t=1388641417p.s. the pictures were taken with a really crappy phone, sorry bout the quality...

Something to consider would be using artist's Gesso (white, black, or gray) as primer. It is a brush-on application (no caustic fumes), water clean-up, and it dries skin-tight, usually with a few pin-holes which may need to be covered. It works quite well on plastic figures such as these. I've used it on my 60mm Cherilea, and Jecsan Viking figures (used as Frost Giants), with great success. More labor intensive to use, but it works quite well, and I don't need to prime outside for adequate ventilation.
If saving cash is a top priority, you might want to consider 1/72 scale fantasy figures. They can usually be had off of e-Bay for around $10 per box, delivered, of 35 figures. Brands to look for are Caesar (Orcs, Goblins, Elves, Undead, Dwarves, Adventurers) and Dark Alliance (Elves, Orcs, Orc Warg Riders, Dwarves). They usually come in boxes of 35 figures for around $10 (air mail from Taiwan!). There are tons of plastic historical figures in 1/72 scale, for every period... Some are even sold at Michael's and Hobby Lobby stores, usually quite affordable (<$10 for 30-50 figures). Cheers!
