Howdy crafters, Recently I found a couple of discarded marble tiles at a construction site near my house. I was trying to figure out what to do with them. It occurred to me that hot glue would probably not stick to it so I thought to craft a gelatinous cube. It's my first "creature craft" and others have done it. However most of the time it seems that the central support is a transparent dice box. Since I don't have any (I buy in bulk when I need them) I needed a sans dice box method. This worked out pretty well. Basically, I spritzed a bit of water on the tile, applied glue in squares (about 2.5 inches for my prototype), then glued the squares together. I probably could have just the hot glue squares, but decided to give it a bit more support using some heavy plastic from fruit containers that we get from the store up the road. This had one specific advantage over the dice box method in that you can craft a g-cube of any size (so not constrained by the size of the support structure.) My results follow.

Tight shot of the gelatinous cube (g-cube to his friends.) Attachment Deleted"Bah! Let us dispense with that aberrant monstrosity and be on our way!" Attachment Deleted"(Burp) Barbarian again? That's the third time this week!" Attachment DeletedThere are other materials that you can use that hot glue won't stick to, but I don't have any of those. If there's some interest, I will be happy to document the process in more detail.

With my cube I made more of a blob, it looks like its more sludge than gel though...

Well done, I have been wanting to do one as well, but spent theday playing with the new "foam cutter".....Just a tip for you all..... spend the extra bit and get the "non-cheap" tools.... not very impressed with the "low end" one I got as a gift.... it did some cutting well but as the day went on it seemed to .... how should I put it... not perform as well... or as well as I hoped....

Nice work, nice concept! Parchment Paper, from the grocery store, will not stick to Hot Glue, either. That is what I used to make my spider webs using Hot Glue -- once cool, it just peels off. Parchment Paper is also nice as a tabletop protector for painting, as acrylic paints will just flake off of it, when dry. I really like your concept of using a non-stick surface to form Hot Glue on top of. Brilliant! This should have many uses, now I just need to figure out what they are! Cheers!

Thanks monkeywithtacos! Also thanks for the heads up about the cutters...what brand did you get? I've been looking at the same set that DMScotty has. They were having a sale a short while ago but it's still a bit pricy so putting some money aside until I have enough to get the whole set.

Thanks also for the comments about parchment. I have been wondering what to do about my painting surface and this might jus fit the bill!

I'm saving the pennies now to get the Hotwire Foam Factory ones (like DMScotty has)....Like the old saying goes, "You get what you pay for..."

Thanks skunkape! The g-cube is probably the "low hanging fruit" of crafting creatures (surpassed only by slimes and oozes but I'm looking forward to trying the technique out for webbing, water, and fire crafts.
