So I figured I'd try out the 2.5D approach. I spent a couple hours over a couple of days creating these pieces and we used them tonight in our campaign. I even mixed it up with some Hirst Arts terrain. It seemed to go over well with my players, although some did suggest painting a grid on them. We didn't go entirely gridless, I laid the tiles out on the large grid background and used the background as a rough guide for movement and positioning. It still felt more organic.

I did no measurements and used no straight edges in making these. I totally eyeballed them. The result is, to me, a sort of organic look to the walls, like cave walls or something. But that's what I wanted, so it worked out fine.

good old mark 1 eye ball.
they look perfectly serviceable, and nice compromise on the grid use.

A few more games and they won't even mention the grid.

When I painted my floors I painted in grids so if its an issue with my group its an easy fix and I have tiled floors Looks nice, I cant wait for us to run and try out the tiles. -R
