Very sorry that you not only got Covid but fell into the long-term side effects category. I am amazed that you can accomplish any craft work at the moment. At least your gnome mushroom village looks cheery!

I used some thin craft foam to make shingles… next tonight I am going to clean up any glue gun strings. Prep to do final paint.

I have always been a bit uncomfortable about the evolution of craft foam - for environmental reasons - but it certainly is useful!

I agree, Margaret. I took a 7-foot long, square block of packing foam, my nephew gave me, as he thought I might be able to use it for crafting. I used my Proxxon Hot Wire Cutter, made it into a bin full of foam hill forms. I already posted on that project. I now have enough hills to cover my 5-foot by 9-foot gaming table, with hills and mountains (stacking them to form mountains, or multi-level hills), which match my green carpet grass surface mat. Otherwise, that foam would have gone to the power-generating incinerator in my city.
My hills will likely be passed along to my sons, when I die, as a part of my gaming inheritance I leave them. They also enjoy playing in my 2e BattleSystem miniatures games, so I hope my terrain, and my mini's, will see plenty of use after I am gone. I hope my sons enjoy them as much, or even more, than I do. Cheers!

I prefer the whole recycle reuse too, but I am also fiddling with different materials to see how they can be used. Hopefully I can finish this building this weekend, I have been too ill to do anything more to it. The foam is little thin sheets from the dollar store.
I need to start designing some Red Planet and Desert Terrain and buildings might scribble some ideas latter if feeling up to it.

You have great ideas for painting "terrain" yourself, but you might be interested in looking at the desert stuff posted here a few years back. I really liked the way he shaded his walls from the ground up and saved the link in case I ever did desert terrain. dmscraft.proboards.com/thread/3646/desert-mud-brick-town-54mmModel railroad posts on the internet are also excellent for ideas about deserts, if your story needs more than barren sand dunes.

I can always take chicken pictures… 😂 I hope we get a few hatches of chicks from the eggs, but mail order eggs are always dodgey.
Been working on my big giant cubes, and various mini. Right now going over opener to the adventure… getting clear in my head what each table top scene needs and rules I am using.

I am going to need to find “Sea Elves” to print or paint. Since I am working on an island theme I decided Sea Elves are the elven kind in the setting start.

The sea elf description in Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes doesn't describe any physical characteristics that differ from standard elves. And the commercial figures just look like elves in some sort of swimming posture. The posture of any PC or NPC is going to vary during play. I think you could go with printed elves that are mounted on some sort of marine-looking base.
One person's vision of a sea elf had blue skin. I don't see any particular reason for that, but if you liked, you could paint standard elves blue.

Yeah I have been looking at “Sea Elves” miniatures… trying to snag a few old lead ones… they have sea shell armour! But I think your right I can modify the standard type elves… so will look at picking up some modern plastics and see what I have in my boxes of shame (unpainted minis). I am going to go with blues and teals for their colour palette. Too bad no one has a box of misused, broken, neglected sea elves in need of a forever home… lol. I would adopt them and give them a second life. 😂 I need to order Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes next. I preordered SpellJammer. Trying to pick up a few old Role Aids books… already decided to use some things from the few Role Aids books I have. Western Duur for example… Duur is going to be an Australian like Continent but further north and the biggest known land mass relative to the Misty Isles. Working on generic Human Tavern types… not sure I am happy with black primer on this group… going to take lots of slow layering. The next batch I think I will go with a lighter primer. (Dead dwarves is the next group). Also experiment painting some children toys for use as giant critters. The frogs are in process… bugs are good enough.

I nearly always prime my mini's in gray. The adage is that go white, for lighter colors; go black for darker colors; go gray if you will need a wider range of colors. I just go for gray, splitting the difference. I've been using gray primer on my mini's for more than two decades, with great satisfaction. Cheers!

Yeah I should have done grey or white on the peasants… next batch will use grey or white. Black was perfect for the critters. I usually do a lighter primer, just experimenting with the paints on these 3D printer pieces.

Well the psychedelic giant frogs are good enough… I should do a wash on them but not black or grungy… I will probably do colour wash if I do. I am trying to create psychedelic grim… lol
