Hey there, my name is ScalySchisms, and I'm crazy about monsters! I love crafting them down to the bio and stats in fact! I decided to finally join here and share some crafts in the form of photos, concept art, and videos. I plan in the coming months to establish a YouTube channel full of this kind of content. I'll be posting plenty of project wips and stuff on this thread every now and again. Hopefully this becomes helpful for those looking for alternative builds for the table!

So I recently went to Walmart seeing we have an actually decent one in the area I just moved to out here in Washington, and I came upon their animal buckets. They have a smaller sized set for $10, and a larger size for $15. They had ocean animals, dinosaurs, farm animals, and assorted jungle creatures. I got the smaller ocean bucket and the larger dino bucket because strangely enough, they have different models for the different sized sets, and these two in particular caught my eye almost right away! This is the small ocean set I got. While some of the figures inside were pretty cheap, most all of the sharks were pretty good which I can't get enough of for sea encounters. Here's the different sizes put to scale with a medium dragonborn miniature. the smallest ones are perfect for reef sharks! This is the 3rd biggest shark model which came in the set, the bucket came with two of these and work perfect for hunter sharks! Now for the large dinosaur bucket. There were a ton of figures in here, and it's obvious many of them were based on Jurassic World : Fallen Kingdom which had a variety of dinosaurs to choose from. This has to be one of the most diverse and impressive dino buckets I've seen so far. Granted the paintjobs are terrible, but the important thing is the models are incredibly detailed and the perfect sizes for tabletop encounters! I'm planning a campaign concept for higher level players that takes place on an island full of dinosaurs and revolves around Yuan-ti worshiping a rain linnorm as a god. Of course, you can utilize these for Tomb of Annihilation as well. Now mind you there were a few figures in the set I did not share in these photos mainly because they weren't that good or looked a bit cartoonish and inaccurate. Even so, the majority were incredibly well done and worth the $15. One of the best figures in the set are the pterasaurs. While for some reason they have teeth even though they're suppose to be pteranodons, I have trouble finding good figures of these for the table. Plus you get three of them! These are the figures that made me think this was meant to sorta rip off Fallen Kingdom. Baryonix and Carnotaurus. Regardless, the models are really good, you get three of each, and they're perfect large-size creatures. The triceratops may have the worst paintjob of all the figures in the set, but they're really detailed and would make for fun mounts or wagon pulling dinos. Of course the tyrannosaurs are all incredibly detailed. I like the smaller ones because you could say they're a lesser species or juveniles. the large t-rex is big enough to be a gargantuan mini and has a ton of detail as well. If you're needing an impressive mini for the t-rex zombie in Tomb of Annihilation, this would be a good figure to use. This is a small complaint seeing the detail on these stegos but WHERE ARE THEIR THAGOMIZERS?! (Tail spikes) Such a memorable trait of these guys that I'm surprised they managed to goof on that detail XD. No need to worry though, green stuff or toothpicks should be decent remedies for these. Anyhow, I will be sure to share photos and hopefully videos of me crafting all these figures into some badass tabletop pieces. I wanna share more options like these for those who get tired of heroclix and the more expensive and exclusive figs. Feel free to share your own creations with these figs!

I use imgur.com and can recommend it. I've uploaded over 5.000 pics that are mostly posted here, and the process of uploaing and then copying the URL / bb code into the forum post is sleek and fast.

Works now. What a great find!
The sharks would make cool Zombie sharks (see DM Scotty's tutorial). I made a few myself, and will probably add more in the future. They're fun to make, although I think my players won't have as much fun fighting them.
That large T-Rex could be the base for a Tarrasque. Just thinking...
Dinosaurs are great monsters on their own, but they also are great as organ donors for mashing up your own monsters. Plus, you can make molds of them, giving you an endless supply of hotglue copies. Tails, legs and arms are hard to sculpt - at least I suck making them myself - but making hotglue copies is fast, cheap and yields cool results, faster than you could sculpt them (see here for an example of a monster mashup done exclusively with hotglue castings of molded stuff).
Please share what you'll do with the haul, can't wait to see what you come up with!

Get a lot of details that way like ribs, fangs, torn flesh, and armor. Will likely make the tarrasque from scratch when the time comes. I wanna make it truly massive.

Here's some WIP's of a "hunter shark" I decided to make based on the mid-sized shark model from that bucket I showed a while back. Decided to do some mods with some green stuff for extra details akin to how people often get dire animal miniatures with spikes and plates. The clear stick holding it up was a clear forth of July plastic skewer from Daiso Japan (Asian dollar store we got on the west coast, you should totally go there if you have the opportunity btw). As an aside, I wanted to also show off another old build I have yet to finish that involved a cheap toy modified using techniques with the green stuff and a toothpick. This was a spinosaurus toy I picked up from Fred Meyer for about $2-$3. While you can find it there with other pretty detailed dinosaur figures, you can find all of these on amazon as well. Here's a link to one such seller but you can possibly get all of these for slightly cheaper via other sellers too. linkI put a ton of detail into the back where I covered the area I cut out the sail with green stuff. Also applied these details on the eyebrows and tail. I wanted to make this guy look torn up and rough with bony spikes and thorns covering his body. Adds character to what was effectively a pretty simple model. A bit more detail was added to the tail as I wanted to make it look a bit more like an amphibious paddle as oppose to the typical crocodillian tail with scutes and plates.

Looks cool, I loke that plating! Does greenstuff stick well to the plastic of the shark? The ones I have look similar, but the plastic is flaxible/soft, so I imagine greenstuff would go off if the plastic is bent too much...

My suggestion aside form scrubbing the toy in soap and water very well is to perhaps sand the areas where you plan to apply the stuff to help with sticking. It sticks pretty well on the shark but it never hurts to go the extra mile.

Looks great, to me! Wanting to really go beneath the surface waves in my games. Loving all these underwater crafting projects. They're all gently nudging me towards an underwater campaign...
Really wanting to do this, now, for a couple of years. My youngest son is brewing up a campaign which will be based on a series of islands. He is planning on having surface dwelling adventures, as well as underwater adventures, and even going back and forth, between the two. I am excited to be a player in his new campaign.
Keep up the good work, and the great inspiration! Cheers!

Was brainstorming some ideas for stuff like giant flatfish and monkfish aside form the standard stock of water-based critters in 5th edition. Maybe some giant remoras that you can pair up with a giant shark encounter to make it more interesting. Speaking of those, there's never been a proper quipper/swarm of quippers mini and will likely try to make one for a later craft. Thinking when I get my hands on a 3d printer I want to make some to sell too.
