I was searching for some kind of collapsible crafting station, and I can't seem to find any for purchase, but before I start destroying tools and materials in an attempt to create one for myself I figured if any of you knew of a commercially available solution. Here is a drawing of my vision presented in glorious mouse pained "3d" vision; So basically a cabinet where the "doors" are deep enough for hold brushes, etc - and a fold down flap were you don't need to worry too much about getting pain on. considering the elaborate paint and brush holders being sold commercially I find it hard to believe that I'm the first to come up with this idea, which properly means I seen it somewhere, forgotten it and now think it's my own idea.. so where to buy?

I know there are some portable puzzle tables available, while probably not what you are looking for, you might want to do a search for them and get some ideas/inspiration from those.

You could build it out of MDF: inexpensive, relatively lightweight, easy to cut/glue/assemble/carry. Be aware that hinges will need to be reinforced, and heavy enough to handle the weight of the panels. MDF is basically wood fiber, compressed into a flat shape, held in form with glue. It is dense, so watch the thickness chosen -- go as thin as you dare, without sacrificing stability.
Need a brush holder? Make a box out of MDF, drill holes for the brush shafts to slide into; wood glue it in place, on one of the walls. Any type of holder can be fashioned out of MDF, and glued in place.
Add a suitcase handle on top, and clasps on the doors, to pull, and hold, it all together. You are a crafter. You can do this! Cheers!

Oh I love the design idea! I want my colors in a vertical rack (instead of a 'staircase' solution that takes up too much desk space) but I don't need my colors everytime. So a suitcase that I can close and put away when not needed would be really cool. This goes straight to the upper echelons of my to do list! Lets see what I can come up with.

Yeah the MT012 was exactly what I was looking for - sadly it's no longer being sold. Guess I'll try combining some plywood and circular saw and see what happens

Just started making my own foldable color rack, based on guppy's sketch. See here for a WIP report.
