Its not mine. I googled fairy houses and one that caught my eye had a ramshackle roof made from the pine cone barbs. Looks like they cut them from the center and laid the thinner side at the top with round edge down literally shingled the roof that way. Yeah its on the list. My daughter plays with the action figures and the playhouses more than my son. He is all about the tablet. I tried pine cone barbs a few weeks ago in a similar way: I wanted to use them either as scales on some creatures (dragons come to mind, though I didn't intend to make one) or as monstrous tongues (which worked out great in Mother's maw). I severed them from the cone with pincers, but the wood of the barb almost always frays or splits. I might one day use a small circular saw; maybe this would do a cleaner cut... Also, glueing the barbs on a test surface proved to be messy, I didn't like the result at all. I didn't put much effort into it since I was already dissapointed with the not-too-great way of cutting the barbs from the cone's stem, so it's likely I would do better if I start again. But as long as my to-do list is growing much faster than I can craft, I'll leave this idea alone. Having said that, please post your results and a small how-to, should you use that technique! I'm still interested in how others work with them.
