I should have posted them in a thread of its own?
(Edit: so I did)

Those are great. I am using a slightly different process. I aim to make mine smaller, but I have to work through the problems first. It was the first time I had made a mini and the first time using the equipment, which was not to hard to grasp, but there is some subtlety to its use.
Some materials did not bond together at all, so I used a smidgen of hot glue. The skeleton is slightly posable too.
Next step human!
I assume you are using glue on wire MrBulow?

Thx..... yep hot hot glue on wire... I was just thinking about what one may heat a needle in a wine cork up and make more details in the glue when it is solidified!?!

And some close up I think these guys are really great. Have you considered using coins for bases? My current favorite is the US Nickel. It's heavy, just about the perfect size and cheap. $0.05 each! Just suggesting something that has been working for me. YMMV.

Using US currency in the US in this way most likely constitutes defacing and as far as I am aware is illegal

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about the defacing of small change. Our government regularly condones the defacing of pennies for those cheap coin press souvenirs (at a 50 cent profit I might add...thats 5000% gain for the company making those machines, and the don't even do any work making the coin for you!).
So I figure it can't be too bad using coins as weights on crafting stuff.

Thanks DMJonny. My next three minis were failures, but the technique is being refined. It is about speed, practicality and ease of construction and finding materials. I thought about modularity, but this may be problematic, but I have a few more materials and concepts to try. I am making armour out of soda cans right now...

<snip> I am making armour out of soda cans right now... Had a friend make a set of scales for a Byzantine scale shirt out of aluminum cans... Lot of work but turned out pretty impressive. I once made a shield out of an aluminum "Men working" sign....that thing took quite a beating....Never tried to make a set of actual armour though.... or were you talking about for your minis?

A full suit of field plate weighed about 20 kilograms or less, and was far more mobile and ventilated than people commonly think (they get it confused with the heavy duty jousting armor, which was quite heavy because it needed to deflect the kinetic warhead of a horse powered lance). Field plate only dropped out of use after crossbows came about, and there was one instance of some Flemish farmers who were threshing grain or some such, with heavy wooden mallets with spikes strapped to them.. well, turns out those things were highly effective against plate mail, and a bunch of knights who were up to no good, got their asses perforated in the flemish neighborhood. I believe the weapon came to be known as a "Good Morning!" in flemish, as that was what the farmers yelled as they laid into the knights with them. Still, most of us would not fit any of the suits made back then, as modern people are so much larger.. visit your local museum and check out the suits of armor on display, quite amazing engineering.

Success!! Wizard mini. It took double the time it took to construct to paint it. Still refining the process, but the materials work.
