A few members have asked how I make my mini potion bottles. I got the idea a few months back from someone on facebook so this wasn't really my idea. Props to whoever that was. I had 40% off coupons on both kinds of beads and the pins. I paid around $12 total for them and I have enough to make hundreds of potion bottles. Here is what you need. 1. Glass or plastic beads of assorted shapes, sizes, and colors. 2. Small gold or silver beads for the potion tops. I used size 6/0 "E" beads, gold. 3. Size 20 1 1/4 inch dressmaker pins. 4. Superglue or goop. I recommend the gel type superglue. 5. Something to cut the dressmaker pins. I use the offset miniature snips but needlenose pliers should work. 6. A piece of styrofoam. Step 1 Find a bead for your potion bottle, a topper bead, a pin. Step 2 Add a small amount of glue to the underside of the pin head and thread on a topper bead. Step 3 Add some more glue to the pin underneath the topper bead. Step 4 Press the pin tightly into a piece of styrofoam and let dry for 5-10 minutes. You should end up with something like this. Step 5 Snip the remaining part of the pin off, as close as you can get to the bottom of the bottle. Repeat steps 1-5 as many times as you wish. I made about 60 of them at once, assembly line style. And thats how you make them. Have fun!

I should mention that I got the glass beads and the gold beads at Michaels. They were in different sections however. Make sure you take a good look at the case with the glass beads in it because they have a few different kinds in the same style case. The box I purchased has many beads that are too big for potion bottles but could be used for many other crafting projects.

dmbrad, oh man, that is such an amazing and simple technique! I can't wait to go and hunt for beads now! Are they very expensive?

dmbrad, oh man, that is such an amazing and simple technique! I can't wait to go and hunt for beads now! Are they very expensive? As i said, I paid a total of about $12 with 40% coupons. With coupons the glass beads were around $7, the gold beads around $2 (both from Michaels) and the pins were around $3 (at JoAnne fabrics with 40% off coupon)

I do a similar technique but I use one bead and stick a kebab skewer through it and cut off to make a cork stopper.

Great ideas here, both the original tutorial and the following comments. Will have to do some bottles & potions soon. Fortunately you can make a few dozen and still have no space problem storing them. Try that with terrain pieces...

I've made a lot of potion bottles out of beads, but I wouldn't want to use up a straight pin on every potion bottle. I've used pins as holders but am careful to glue only the beads together, and then sometimes after the beads have dried and I've removed the pin, I've used bits of toothpicks to create "corks" for the top.

Very impressive. Putting a few on a bookcase really sells it as belonging in a wizard's study.
