I watched DMScotty's vid on removing paint. I lacquered or flat matted all my minis some have been kicking around for 15-16 years and even with the added protection are getting nicked and worn. It would be fun to re do them. Does the Pine Sol method get through lacquer or Matte?

Pine-Sol will cut through about any paint/lacquer/clear coat, given enough time. I don't know if it will cut though urethane, or Plasti-Dip coatings. Another, less caustic solution to try, is Simple Green cleaning solution. It won't eat plastic as badly as Pine-Sol will. Soak mini's for 24-48 hours (longer if necessary), then use an old toothbrush to remove the loosened paint. You will never get it all, but you will get most of it. Cheers!

Its all metal minis so I don't need to worry about the plastic. Unless it eats the metal as well.

Simple green won't eat metal, it is basically extract from citrus fruit skins. Soaking and putting it through a sonic bath at the same time is also highly effective.

I got a cheap used sonic bath for exactly that purpose and I found that it didn't work on metal minis at all: I bathed them for about 2-5 minutes, added some dishwasher and toothbrushed them afterwards. Nothing. Maybe I did something wrong...

Personally, I rarely strip paint, but this seems a pretty painless way to do it. I imagine it works very well on Acrylic paint, if you have used oil paints.. heh, good luck! Solvents will have a hard time, it'll probably be a nightmare. If you know of a better method, by all means! What sort of paint was on those miniatures tauster?

I use concentrated Simple green in an old lidded jar. I let figures soak for about a week, as I usually don't have too much time to work on them. I use a gun cleaning brush similar to a toothbrush, but more rigid. This usually gets the majority off of the figure as well as seperates any metal bases I put the figure on. Any stuff that is in crevices gets picked out with straight pins, or an x-acto knife. If you have access to an air wand, these can prove to be very useful as well. I generally scrub my miniatures under warm running water as it helps lift up paint.
Whatever you do, DO NOT USE BLEACH! This stuff doesn't work for beans and it discolors lead.

I use oven cleaner. I know using an aerosol is soo behind the times *laughs* I have used it for years on my model horses and quite successfully on miniatures (both metal and plastic). I buy the extra strength or heavy duty stuff from the dollar store. Spray it on, let it sit for a bit (about 1/2 hr -ish I usually do it in between priming or other house chores). Use an old toothbrush and scrub. The paint pretty much bubbles up and peels off. Sometimes hot running water helps. I have used it to remove oil paint, acrylic paint, pastels, those old testor type paints, it will remove matte finish spray, high gloss finish spray, dull cote, workable fixatiff, the only thing I found it will not remove was a clear fingernail polish that I used on a model like 20 years ago (I have no clue what brand it was). If you want to try it, its best if you can wear a mask or bandana and to do it outside and leave the mini outside till your ready to scrub the paint off. I also like to use a baking soda paste on anything i strip, no matter what I use to strip it. It gets any remaining residue that could have been missed. Baking soda is great for removing mold release stuff on resins as well.
I have tried the pinesol method but it just did not work for me. I tried different dilutions and using it non-diluted as well. Also, I had a horse I left in it for like 2 days (yes I am a blonde sometimes ok) and it remained "soft". I have no other way of describing what it did to the plastic other than it always felt soft.

I tend to strip a lot of the old metal/pewter/lead figures for Battletech that I buy off of ebay. I use Pine-sol and let them soak in a jar (I use a mason jar) for about 24 - 48 hours. After that use luke warm water and an old toothbrush, the paint slides right off.

I drop the minis in the old bottle and it sinks to the bottom of the big pickle jar. When I want the minis back, I just pull the bottle out. The PineSol bottle, of course, won't dissolve in PineSol.

Humm I just use Aircraft Paint stripper on my metal mini's soak for a day and a soft tooth brush and you are done. That is with a mix of paints as well, and several of mine have been repainted several times before I do a down to the metal stripping. I have a few soaking, need to re do my 1/2 Giant Monk -R

I really like the idea of the sonic cleaner that Viv mentioned in his vid. I hadn't seen that one yet!
