Hi forum, I've been DMing for a long time and never done any terrain. I do maps on paper and game mat, but I wanted something more visual for new gamers; a lot of my games have been game store Meet-ups lately.
I just found the DM's Craft on Monday. Really enjoy the videos and the approach. I was especially interested in the wall-less Tilescape tiles, so I started a batch of them last night and plan to continue them today.
I have a few ideas for future games I'll share if I complete - they're probably not new ideas, but there are over 500 videos to sort thru...
I want to do a rope bridge over a chasm. I was thinking of craft sticks held together with simple twine over two canyon walls made out of polystyrene, like TV packing material.
One question for the Patreon members: if you subscribe, do you get access to back episodes of Crafter's Lair?
Thanks!

Episode 11 of DM Scotty's 2.5 D Next series is about making a plank bridge. Can't find the URL at the moment, but you may find it in the videos you've got. He glued the craft sticks / coffee stirrers to cardboard and an made a rope railing of string. You could certainly tie the sticks together, although that would be rather fiddly to do.
And welcome to the forum. Looking forward to seeing your work!

I saw that bridge episode. I think that could be a good way to go, maybe just remove the lower boards. I would love to do the bridge as tied sticks to simulate a real rope bridge and make it seem unstable but that might be just too much.
I got my first batch of Tilescape tiles prepped and painted yesterday. The stamping technique is great; I was able to do several 6x6 tiles and some smaller pieces pretty quickly. I definitely felt like my technique was improving the more I did. I would upload a picture, but I only see ways to link for now...

Hans, you have to upload pictures to a website, then link to them. One of the many photo sharing sites will work. You can get free accounts on most. shutterfly.com, smugmug.com are just a few.
One way you could simulate a rope bridge would be to take a length of twine, thin or thick depending on how strong you want your rope to be, lay it on your crafting area and after you have cut the planks to the proper width, superglue them to the twine, repeating that step for the other side. Then you could leave it that way or make railings, either by another length of twin with toothpicks attached for the connections or other twin, but also super-gluing them to the various parts. Will be somewhat labor intensive, but using the super-glue or even hot-glue, it will go much faster than you would think.

Skunkape: I like your idea about the bridge. Definitely something I'll have to try soon.
I tried to upload photos with Google Drive/Photos and share them, but the links just aren't the same. I'll try some more later on.
Tonight I think I'm going to get some more Tilescape tiles stamped and work on doing a front. I'm really looking forward to some of these pieces!

All of us discover Scotty, and then inevitably TheDMG - make sure you watch all of his stuff too, at least to pick up on techniques and paint schemes, etc. even if you commit to tilescapes.
