In their defense, GW's official policy is now to base them on whatever size you deem appropriate.
The playerbase, however, tends to frown on basing them on anything smaller than the provided bases, as smaller bases are advantageous for deepstriking units, like the Tyrannocyte.
Since they are a scratch build, I want to keep them as close to the official model as possible, to keep any potential belly aching to a minimum.

Considering they are a flying unit, I wouldn't think Base Contact would be a problem. Especially if your scratch build is slightly bigger than the actual model (thus making it so establishing LoS EASIER).
This is why I never understood why people had such an attitude probelm where my scratch-built Kans and Deff Dreads were concearned. Though I'm not ashamed to admit most of my infantry were wire and bits from WFB Orks and Mage Knight miniatures.

Honestly, the complaints I get are usually directly proportionate to amount of ass whooping they are receiveing at my hands.
The guy who didn't complain at all when he was blowing my scratch built Ork Kans and Dreads off the board was the same one who was crying and moaning about me using custom models when my Chaos Daemons were devouring his Space Marines a few weeks later. Same thing when I started casting scarabs for Necrons. No one cared about the scarabs when there were 10 bases of them on the board, but they were "broken" when I started fielding 50-60 bases of them.

Sounds about like the rage I've heard over fielding a half-dozen scratch-built Triarch Stalkers and a half-dozen paper craft Night/Doom-scythes, and four scratch built Monoliths. Yeah. Necrons are pure cheese if you Spam certain units. Though I hear Tau are the same way... wouldn't know though, Tau came out just after I quit playing.

I had an idea for another alien themed terrain piece, and ran with it. It's a hill from one side, and a bit more from another. Could just as easily be an emerging purple worm for a Fantasy setting, and that hungry mouth could be replaced with groping tentacles.

IMO, skip the music (it's annoying) and just talk about what the piece is, and what/how you made it. Don't need a full tutorial, but maybe follow DM Scotty's "Eye Show you My Stuff" format. Again, just my two cents. But you stuff looks great!

Very nice cover. Cardstock? The basic shape is made from cardstock and then it is textured in hot glue. After making all the Tyrannocytes, I've gotten good at forming the hot glue into the textures I want. Start with lid from a McDonalds Frappe. It's a dome with an opening at the top. Draw a ring on it where the lip is to be, with permanent marker. Using a hot glue gun, layer a ring of hot glue over the drawn border. The "teeth" are short lines, drawn fron the border to the center, using a short quick motion, resulting in the lines narrowing as they approach the center. Once the teeth are cooled, go over them again, to increase their thickness. Then trace over the ring, being sure to overlap slightly over the roots of the teeth this time. The folds of flesh around the outside are the easiest part. They are created by making a tighlty packed spiral of hot glue around it. After ever ring, stop to blow on it for second or two to make sure the previous ring is cooled, enough that it won't blend into the next ring. The steps are pretty simple, but if it's still unclear just let me know, and I'll see if can a tutorial with some pictures.

Kinda out of it...Warhammer was popular for awhile locally and I (sadly) dumped about 1.5 k into the hobby when I had the ability to afford it. But my experience is that Nids tend to be OP just in general. They have a solution for everything and have been ahead of the curve in rules for a bit.
Tau are cheese. Get them in a tactical firing position and they decimate. You can wipe them easy with close combat, but you have to get them there first.
I once won a game during terrain set up against a much more efficiently built Ork army. It was just a matter of tactical placement.
Sadly I now have an entire Tau army and no one to play against...

I needed a good laugh this morning Let me just say that you have a unique outlook on Tyranids. Without getting into a lengthy discussion about the meta, they are generally considered mid-tier, with Flyrant Spam, and lower tier without them. I am sorry to hear that your local 40K community collapsed. Tau vs. Orks essentially winning during deployment is a combination of Paper beating Rock, and possibly insufficient terrain on the board. The Basic Tau Rifle denies everything but Mega Armored Orks an armor save and can Glance/Pen Ork AV10 vehicles on a 5+ Orks are hurting this edition. Orks can't outshoot most armies. There are plenty of armies better than Orks in the Assault. Any other Psychic race will dominate the Psychic Phase. Ork formations are mostly useless. It's like the rules want Orks to be NPCs to be crushed by other races. Their rules are utterly inferior to almost every other race. If it wasn't for their conversion friendly nature, and great narrative fluff, I don't think anyone in their right mind would play them. I only still have Orks because I love converting crazy models for them.

Granted my experience with Nids was when they got their rules update months before any other race. That gave them an edge...and one that seemed disturbingly imbalanced.
I haven't compared them to other races since.
As for Orks, their strategy seems to be to get up close to everything and decimate. If you can tear them apart before then they are harmless.
Tau, by the reverse token, has a strategy of keep everything far far away and decimate. You get up close and they are a poor man's army.
So in Tau VS Orks, Tau has an edge until the Orcs get close, then the Tau suck. The goal is to keep away as long as possible. Terrain makes a difference here.
I honestly only played against one player who was smart enough to exploit that weakness against Tau. It is so disgustingly obvious I am not sure why people don't make use of it. Instead they whine about how Tau are broken.then they spend the majority of the fight staying precisely where they are vulnerable against the Tau.

I agree that Tau are not as infallible as some make them out to be. Just like in real warfare, it's significantly easier to pick off enemy forces with ranged weapons as they charge accross the battlefield than it is for them to engage an entrenched enemy in assualt. An assualt army without significant means to traverse the board quickly is forced to footslog 2-3 turns before getting into assault against a Tau player who just camps in his deployment zone. The Tau player can then inflict traumatic losses on the oppossing forces before they ever make it into assault. This was further compounded with the addition of markerlights and interceptor. What good options do other races have agaisnt Tau ? Deepstrike, Drop Pods, and Cover can all make getting across the board survivable. Markerlights can strip cover and interceptor allows shooting against Deepstriking units. Tau are not undefeatable, but they are defintely Top Tier in the hands of a competant player. It's easier to make out the details of the defense line bits, now that they have some paint on them. The Mawloc was a Fathers Day treat to myself.

Terrain is the key for either success or failure for Tau in alot of cases. If you have terrain that blocks LoS (Large Buildings) then you have a good chance of closing the gap. Certain Terrain choices also make it nigh impossible for a Tau player to justify not using Kroot or (shudders) Vespids, and both are easy to take out if you have an army built for assault.
However, unless you disallow it, watch out for a Hammerhead with a Railgun...those things can wipe out virtually any building on the board, and then it is just a matter of getting LoS to whatever it feels like decimating (so many people have foolishly put snipers in early deploy on top of buildings that I am just going to destroy).
Cool shield walls by the way. Fits the Nid style really well. I hate those Mawlocs in combat though...so obviously it is a good choice.

It makes me sad to hear Orks got nerfed... I played Orks and did a half way decent job of playing against Marines and Chaos.
My Kans and Deff Dreds were fairly devastating.
