Okay I've improved upon the OpenCork Tile System I designed and printed a 2x2 inch tile 1/4" thick. But this one is special in that it houses 4 pennies on the bottom (adhered with a glue gun). Finally capped with a grippy material. The base was designed in Google Sketchup in like 5 minutes. A 2 inch by 2 inch retangle, pulled out 1/4". Then four 13/16" diameter circles were added and then pushed down 1/16th of an inch. The pennies just barely clear which is good, because you wouldn't want them too low. Also made the diameter of the countersunk holes to be a tad larger then the penny so you can pry the penny out with a knife point. Used 3M spray adhesive to apply the grippy craft foam: If anyone knows a cheaper weigh to add weight than pennies please let me know because I can design anything in sketchup to handle that .. and I'd just use a glue gun to glue it in. Then conceal it Also I'd share with everyone any and all sketchup/blender/STL files.

If I do decided to go with an entirely 3D printed version of the tile. The tile base will be 1/4" thick and the stepping stones on that tile (that I create in Blender) will be 3/16" thick -- that way they will be of the same height as the cork / printed hybrid -- as well as OpenForge. Also, I can integrate with Tilescapes just by simply adding a temporary 1/4" foundation under the Tilescape tile (since they are cork).

I hate to encourage taking pennies out of circulation, because the government already wants to... But the 1-inch fender washers I got to make flat monster tokens with are $8.81 per hundred from Home Depot now - plus whatever tax your area adds. So 4 pennies are cheaper unless you can find washers in bulk for much, much less. A penny-sized washer would be about 3/4 inch in diameter and would still be well over a cent in price.

plus there is the upside of having that much money in tiles if the need ever arises after a few years.

okay got a couple 4 penny OpenCork Tiles painted. What's nice about the 1/4" tile base and the 3/16" thick cork is that the overall 7/16" thickness is the same as the OpenForge tile in the middle: (sorry the Openforge tile is off a little.. it was printed at 50mm by 50mm and the 2inch tile is 50.8mm by 50.8mm -- in the future all my openforge tiles will be printed at 50.8mm x 50.8mm to be exactly 2 inches square): THe OpenForge tile base is slightly taller than 1/4" but the 4 stepping stone tiles are thinner .. the overall height is just about identical to the OpenCork tiles. Btw, I am gonna rename this "OpenCork" to something else.. was just a silly name a gave it at the time. But foam core is also 3/16" as well and can be used in place of the cork. I am also gonna print out 2x2 4 penny tiles that are a bit thicker than 1/4" for popsicle/craft sticks to be applied and have the overall height then be exactly 7/16" as well -- Wyloch's Tavern tiles are SOOO GORGEOUS.. I am gonna use his method for my 2x2's.

Any progress on your cork tiles? I'll eventually get to making some after I get my next batch of Wyloch tiles done.

It's cork. It's so pliable it comes in rolls.
