Nice job. How much does that guy weigh? <1lb. he has a 1x1x2 foam core to reduce weight and to strengthen the figure as a whole. the moss is DMscottys pencil shavings. I used hot glue to build and did a 40/60 water/wood-glue coat in all the crevices to keep all the rocks from falling off when the rocks cool

In my current game I'm playing a Dwarf fighter who is a devout follower of Moradin and a weapon smith, I made the axe originally but it was destroyed, repaired and then destroyed once more by a magma dog, I was able to recover the handle which I planned on using to rebuild it to but thanks to the deck of many things it was granted intelligence, at first it wouldn't stop screaming due to you know being a charred broken shaft. Fast forward we finally make it to the emerald keep (We were in OZ btw) i make straight to the closest forge and work with the smith there to reforge my beloved now screaming axe out of the very material the keep was made of. TL/DR: I made a Dwarven War Axe to replicate the one i have in my current game First i glues two 1" thk sheets together and cut out a rough template (I based the design off of The Axe of Ancestral Virtue) Second i carved the symbol of Moradin and most of the blade and spike I finished the carving then I added the growth down the handle by cutting out 4 donuts and layering them on top of one another and carving as a single piece. After I filled the gaps and seams with joint compound when that dried I did a coat of wood glue and water to harden and protect the foam Black base coat Forest green base with a lightened green dry sponge to highlight the ridges and symbol Painted the handle added a pommel and decorations Let me know what yall think or any ideas to make it better or if you have any build questions, i plan on shellacking the blade to give it a more gem like appearance

Nice dice tower! Love the little dice holder thingy too! What really amazes me and now I want to make one, is that Earth Elemental! I think I am gonna make two elementals, like your Earth elemental, but snow flocking instead of moss. It will replace the two "Frost Giants" I need in the Frostgrave beastiary. This is good because Frost Giant minis cost like $8 a piece or so and I can make these elementals essentially for free; and they will look awesome! (I'll just use the Frost Giant stats in the beastiary for the elementals I make). Thanks again for sharing! Can you describe your process for shaping the pieces of foam to look like rocks.. you did such a great job. Are there any web/youtube resources for making one of these? Did you use entirely foam or did you also use toliet paper mache? I really want to make two or three of these. Edit: You did quite an amazing job painting those rocks, they look so realistic! Including that little brown line/fossil inside one of those broken rocks. Edit #2: Reread, and it looks like you used real rocks over foam right? Since it's about a pound.. so yeah it'd have to be. I don't even have cool rocks like those in my yard darn it hah.

Yea sorry i didn't put to much of a description, it is a Huge Earth elemental with a 3" x 2 1/2" base that stands roughly 4" tall, it is made of rocks i grabbed from a friends driveway, you can buy large bags for about 5$ at a hardware store (do not know the brand sorry, just eye ball one that looks good) If your wanting to make it free just go for a walk or drive to a area that has a lot of gravel roads (assuming you have those where you live, in Alabama they are every where) and if your going for frost giants they sell pure white stones every where dollar stores, pet stores, walmart, ect. that could be perfect if hit with a hammer, as for bonding i would use the same method I did with hot glue first then a 40/60 water/wood glue mixture with blue paint mixed in really sounds awesome. I cant wait to see how it turns out and i might try my hand at it as well

Plastic viking figures, 54-60mm tall, can be had off of e-Bay for ~$4 for five figures ($1.80/figure, delivered to the USA). The metal figures run around $8 per figure (much higher detail, m-u-c-h heavier, greater heft than any plastic figure...). You could use one of the metal, $8 figures, for the Jarl, but the rank and file Frosty's should be the inexpensive, plastic figures. Cheers! [Picture from e-Bay auction by Technolog seller: $3.99 + $5 S/H = $1.80/figure. You could use the plastic's blue color for their skin, just painting the non-skin portions appropriately -- super-fast painting technique; apply Minwax Polyshades Tudor, then matte clear coat, and done!]

How did you make that? Thank you your very kind, as for making it i bought a bag of large cotton balls from the dollar tree, then i un-rolled 4 wrapped those around a couple pieces of a wire coat hanger to get the basic shape for the body and arms. After which i just unrolled and twisted cotton balls in to snake like shapes and wrapped it around the armature. then a basic water glue wash with black paint, followed by multiple shades of gray and a white dry brush. The base is just a 3" diameter chipboard sheet, with sand piled (See The DM's Craft, EP32) the wind wisps were cotton balls as will i laid them on a puffed up Ziploc bag and painted them flat with the same black paint and glue wash i used on the main body then hot glued straight to the base

You might want to experiment with black spray paint: it does not cover very well on loose cotton fiber, creating a variable gray-to-dark gray color. Hold the can about 8"-10" from the cotton, and spray from side-to-side. It might just be the easiest, fastest paint job you will ever do...
I used this technique on synthetic batting for stuffing pillows (fabric store item). I used it to simulate smoke clouds billowing up from destroyed tanks, for my Army Men games. Worked superbly, fast, easy, inexpensive. Once dried, very little paint will come off -- my smoke clouds look the same today, as they did when I made them, back in 1998. Cheers!

I'll try to pull them out tonight, and capture them for a post. Mine are quite large, as I use them on 40mm scale Tanks, but they will demonstrate the effect. I'll throw in a ruler, for size. Cheers!
