Hey all! I've made another display board for my brother. This one I had to do as my brother asked me for suggestions on how to base an Ice Dragon and I couldn't help but make him a board to display it on once it's finished! I feel like this board didn't quite live up to my hopes, but I learned a lot during the process. Mostly, don't rush! I struggled with the backdrop for awhile, and in fact I had a failed version I ended up abandoning for this one. I also hadn't planned enough room for where his dragon will stand. The one in the images is mine and I had to remove one of its wings in order for it to stand in the largest spot of the board. This was also my first time using the crackle paint, and it went awful! I didn't realize that the paint was opaque, so I attempted to add white to it before spreading it on the board. I had done a test patch and it turned out okay, but it was a little small to really gauge it. My application too was not very well thought out and so the river looks a little funky and not natural. I'd love to hear your feedback and tips or suggestions for future boards or projects!

Wow!... Wow!... That is really impressive work. I agree, wrong chromatic dragon for a frozen setting. Either a White Dragon, or a Silver Dragon would work, based on D&D's setting context. That does not take away from the setting itself, though. Thank you for sharing. Cheers -- and Exalt!

I hated that the mountain display's background didn't blend into the foreground, so I knew I had to address it in this board. As for the dragon, I unfortunately lack an Ice Dragon right now and so I substituted it in with the one in the pictures. My brother is working on an actual Ice Dragon that my hope is he'll use this board to display it. Once he receives the board, I'll demand he finishes painting his dragon and then send me a picture I can upload.

you guys took me wrong, there is no wrong settings here.
but considering a black dragon never really goes to such icy places, seeing one there makes me wonder what it was doing there. that would make for a great story in fact.

fighting a black in icy terrain would add some new angles to the battle:
- fight in ice-cold metal armor? bad for fighters! - cold and stiff fingers? bad for archers and spellcasters! - arcitc cold freezes black dragon acid to victim's bodies... *shudders at the thought* - frozen river/lake --> lead the massive dragon on the ice so he breaks in --> tactical advantage for the PCs fighting a partially submerged dragon!
so as pally said: this is no wrong setting. on the contrary, this would make an awesome encounter!

It would be quite interesting for a Black Dragon to fight on this terrain: if he fell into the water, the cold would affect him, maybe, but they are water-breather's, and often lair underwater, in swamps, and fetid pools... That could be quite interesting if the Black Dragon wears a Ring of Warmth on a talon... Cheers!

Think of something akin to the hot springs in Japan where you see a lot of pictures of the monkeys that stay near them and use them to remain warm even when shortly away there's thick snow. Now, imagine something a bit more interesting where you could have damp, warm, and fetid caverns more akin to the swamps, complete with more of a sulfurous stench, but just outside, well, it becomes a frozen wasteland.
