My friend Norm is running Stonehell for a huge group of us. We're enjoying it very much. We play a very non-linear, episodic game. If you are not present the night of the game, your character is just "missing." Perhaps he is "indisposed" from too many iron rations...

Whatever the reason, there are no NPC PCs in the game. You must be present to win (or die.)
So, sometimes we have a strong party of 10 PCs one night and then two weeks later, we have 5. It is great for flexibility -- we all live busy lives -- but it can play hell with power levels.
Case in point, last week, we had a light party of 6. Two of them were fighters, so we felt pretty good about our chances. Toward the end of the night, however, our half-ogre fighter had to leave. Some kind of family commitment. Whatever.
So we kept exploring, but we were leery of anything really massive.
Well, we stumbled upon a mutant owlbear. Luckily for us it was heading AWAY from the party, so we let it just keep on going...
Until tomorrow (I suspect!) Our half-ogre will be in attendance and I'm thinking we need to end this thing before it wanders up on us in a weakened state!
This inspired me to craft! So I busted out my stuff and I went to work!
I figured that a plastic Sully from the Dollar Tree could serve as the body of the owlbear. I also thought that I might use the arms off the zombie for the new owlbear arms. I knew that I'd be using some resin putty and I planned to make the "beak" out of the plastic from the coupon card.
The zombie arms proved to lame/short, so I got out my drill and some wire. Here's the owlbear with his body modified and his "arms" started. I had to trim Sully's arms a bit, but I covered it with putty to give the owlbear a big belly.
I'm no expert texture guy, but I was trying to mimic Sully's fur and I was trying to get "scaly" near the shoulders. Norm said it was scaly as a result of wizardly experimentation!
The zombie is ready for Michonne...
I needed feathers. His feathers were going to be mostly ratty looking -- vestigial -- so I did what any good crafter would! I raided my paper shredder!
I puttied up his arms, made some claws and then got started with the white glue. It'll do. I also epoxied him to a clay poker chip. I got a couple boxes of these on the cheap at Goodwill. They have a nice weight to them. Perfect for big monsters!
Here he is painted up and washed. I should probably figure out a better way to do feathers, but, maybe next time.
Happy crafting!
