Darkness, tell me... when you wanna do the vision of each players plus each monsters and see who can see who in fog of war. you really think the best way is to erase and repaint it with layers ? i understand what you mean by layers... but thats only pseudo fog of war because in the end you unveil a whole room. while the software i am talking about actually makes fog of war per creatures and per players. which would take fuck tons of time to do with layers.
but i need to redo my old research on the matter since i dont remember the name of that program.
EDIT: found back what i was reading about... its Map Tool from the RPTools.net toolboxes for DMs. that program is so advanced now. its literally a virtual table top and not just a map tool as the name implies.
i'd say the reasons im not using my projectors to do this kind of thing is that i dont like the 2D nature of it. and even if i was to use my minis... it would seem weird to me. i love 2.5D better. but its true the possibilities this offers are infinitely better. the one drawback though... it makes the game looking like a video game instead of the table top experience. at least to me.

I will take a look at Gimp and Paint.net. Thanks for the input. Keep it coming if you have any other suggestions or input. If anyone has any samples (pics or video) of either program, by all means post them here. I am interested in using fog of war as I don't like putting dark pieces of paper to cover things up. Especially if I'm using a TV or projected image. Has anyone tried this: pyromancers.com or rptools.net/ I found these online and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them. By the way, where do I find Paint.net? www.getpaint.net/index.html (Paint.Net) Here are some maps i have made with paint.net, these maps were made for our Pathfinder game where we were running Jacobs tower i haven't finished the last few levels. But it should still give you a good feel for the capabilities of the program. Warning IMAGE Heavy

I was talking more from a ease of use, i find it easier to design in paint.net. But i haven't ran into a problem where i would need the monsters field of view, but the players would be just a matter of erasing in my opinion

As a wargamer, l7arkness, I find that non-TV gaming table to be incredible! My nephew is a professional carpenter, who does custom work on the side. I plan to keep a PDF copy of that site's images, for future use. He could build that monster for me, cheaply, but professionally. I recently (a few months ago) re-covered my Ping Pong Table's surface with mottled, red vinyl, as the surface was getting pretty rough after 20 years of usage. The vinyl works well enough, and it was inexpensive (around $40 for everything), but if I had seen this table design, I would have junked the Ping Pong Table instead. This table design is amazing for my needs (RPG and mini's gaming), as long as I had it made to a 9' x 5' size. I'd probably go a bit larger, and add in pull-out drawers for players to use to hold their books, dice, and drinks (tried to do this on the Ping Pong table, but the under-carriage got in the way, and it wasn't long enough for decent sized drawers -- needs to be 10' long). This design has been filed away for a future use when I retire my Ping Pong Table... Cheers!

I am looking for a good gallery of objects to work with. Thanks
