so this is the first post in what will be an ongoing project for my table top game of choice FIRST EDITION Dust Tactics .
but to be clear , this can be used to build a train setup for any number of games like Shadows of Brimstone , WH40K , or any other game that you want to add a train to , but on a serious budget .
so Dust Tactics is a "WIERD WAR II" game , set in 1947 as WWII rages on . for a longtime now i have gone through local train stores and ebay looking for cheap O scale trains (o scale/guage is 1:48 scale , which is what most 28mm "heroic scale" games use ) but they are NOT cheap . i was able to get a few good deals , but even then good deals hit my wallet ..............like a freight train for the cost of ONE train car , i could get 3-5 of the cheap trains ...........so i bought 5 as a good start
but with the news as of late about the discovery of a "nazi gold train" in poland , its put the project back on the frint burner .
so while walking the toy isles of the nearby walmart , i came across a toy train in their generic kids toys section . it coat just $10 , gave me an engine , and a few cars , and some track . and since its christmas , that means TOYS R US will have their own sets , and probably target too .
now it needs to be pointed out that the cars in the set dont have free turning pivot points for the wheels , so they rely on being short to make the curves . as i will be lengthening some of them , they wont be able to make the curves on the track . for me that wont mater as i will glue them TO track sections , but for some of you it might be an important conversion consideration . so lets start out with what i got , and some comparrison pics .

here is a pic of the engine with an actual O scale engine behind it . the o scale is more european than the classic american engine in the set , but that wont matter since this will be converted as this project goes forward .

here is one of the cars next to an o scale caboose
<img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src="">
again to show the width

here is the o scale caboose ON a piece of track from the $10 train set .

and here is a o scale train flat car next to the cheap car so you can see how much length i will be adding in on some the of the cars .
