Hey, those are cheap knock-off Gundam toys. I see the Gundam, Zakus, Rick Doms, and even a Gyan. Cool!

Thanks! After clicking the link, I noticed a whole universe of mass product little plastic toys. I just bought a set of the space ships. Perfect for kit-bashing more Star Wars stuff. That's what I love about this place, just when you think you hit the end of the rabbit hole, someone shows up with a shovel.

I have a box of speeder bike parts I've been collecting. I really want to put together a swoop gang....one far more infamous than the Dark Hellion. I also made a miniature market order, this time while wearing my Star Wars glasses, and holy crap there are tons of figures that could be Sci-fi with little to no alterations. I picked up several that look like they could be sitting, so I'm going to try to put some butts on those seats.
I've got lots of other crafting projects going.... but I will be Revenging to Swoops... er... better change that to Returning to Swoops.

It seems to me that 40k Scout Bikes and (and the other bikes they produce) could be 'bashed into swoops.
Now that I think about it... I think a scratch-build should be easily doable with Popsicle sticks, cardstock and coffee stirrers.
*shrug*

It seems to me that 40k Scout Bikes and (and the other bikes they produce) could be 'bashed into swoops. Yeah, those would be cool... but at $15-$20 a pop that is a little too rich for my blood. Im trying to keep each bike under $2 in materials... However, next year at Origins, I'm going to go ballistic in the GW space marines bit bins...

There should be some scratch build templates for 40k jet bikes somewhere on the net. Or tutorials at least.

Did a little Google-fu... hope this helps/inspires you in scratchbuilding: There is also: Depending upon how you feel about paper models: Lego Builds (which would be a good source for bits, btw. just dremel and sand down the pegs)

The Aratech EC-254 ("Dirge Dawn") Escort Class military speeder bike Aratech created a new class ( Escort Class) of speeder when they designed the EC-254. Too big to be a speeder bike, but still faster and more maneuverable than a land speeder, a middle child was born. The Dirge Dawn gets it's name from the dual Dirge-NF repulsorlift engines that power the bike. These No-fail engines are designed specifically to function in the coldest weather or the thickest sandstorms. The bike also features a linked pair of SoroSuub Q-X power cells which give the bike a greater range than a standard speeder bike. The cells also power the two heavy blaster cannons. Heavier hull plating and a trasparasteel blast shield make this a favored bike with pirates and Corporate Sector Security personnel alike. The Walkthrough: This was a collaboration build with several members from this forum....though none of them were aware that they were apart of it. The main components are from this Dollar General Robot, a robot I never would have know existed if Jayzhee hadn't pointed him out to me. A word of caution: with the exception of the main torso, head, missile pack, and feet, this toy is made from an oily rubber that is extremely resistant to glues (both super and hot) and paint. I had to pin every single part of this build. The toy easily pulls apart. I played around rearranging the part until I started to see the speeder. I was totally making it up as I went along. Soda caps were provided by michka. The small plastic space ships were the result of a wrong turn while in a rabbit hole, a hole that I wouldn't have been in at all if bluecloud2k2 hadn't said "hey, look over there, a rabbit hole". I trimmed and pinned an upside-down foot to the neck socket. I cut one end off of a soda cap and dremelled off the inside threads. Pinned on the shins to the shoulders and trimmed the opening so the soda cap would fit. Glued the soda caps together. I got a bunch of these tape spools(?) from dragon722 a while back. I sanded some angles on them and cut them to fit in the end of the shins. Pinned and glued on. Cut and bent another space ship. Glued and pinned to the back of the foot and to the sides of the tape spools. Added a magnet to the bottom of the soda cap and hot glued a tack into the foot. This way the turret can still swivel, but wont fall out. Pinned and glued in the upper arms into the sockets of the tape spools. Trimmed a notch in the thigh to fit to the torso. Another space ship will provide the guns for the turret. Glued and pinned the thigh to the torso. Glued the guns to a piece of plastic and cut a section of a plastic pick for gun neck. Glued and pinned a space ship to the front of the speeder, and glued the gun parts to the turret. I cut a small piece of plastic from a light bulb carton that will become the windshield of the speeder. Windshield added. Painted up. I also glued a HeroClix flying base to the bottom of the speeder. Ready to protect other speeders....or terrorize them....

That is so damn cool!!!!! It sorta reminds me of the Storm-Skimmer from Dark Empire, but only in the two seater, rear turret kinda way. Otherwise your build is way, way more awesome. Love the use of the plastic spaceships as an instant greebly source.

Love the use of the plastic spaceships as an instant greebly source. Ah, yes. Dark Empire, easily one of my favorite pieces of the EU... and certainly one of my favorite WEG sourcebooks. It didn't remind me of the Storm-Skimmer, but that might have been because I was worried that it looked a helluva lot like this:

Well, that may be how you define it... which is fine. But to me - this is about as close to "scratch" as it gets. Taking things that had a totally unrelated purpose, cutting them apart, reshaping them, etc.
Fits for me.

Anyway back on topic, love the speeder bike.
And having a ton of those black spools, thanks for giving me an idea of what to do with them!

Amazing stuff, Curufin. Thanks for fuelling my Star Wars needs;-) This vehicle looks great. You did such a good job in this bash, that I didn't even recognize those small spaceships, which I have in my collection, at the first glance. If you had not shown it in the tutorial, I don't think I would've seen them. That will be a new minigame for me the next time you post a speederbike:-) Keep up the good work. Cool windshield and rotating turret, which of course amounts to an Exalt...
