Hiya everyone, just thought I'd share with everybody here the last couple of projects I completed.
So it was my nephews b day, he lives half way across the country, I see him maybe, once a year if I'm lucky. So completely stumped as to what to give him for his b day (he turned 6) I was handed an empty shadow box frame, and it was suggested that I build him a shadow box.
this is how it turned out
So as a hollow box with a piece of glass in it, I built the shelf, or the ground level, found some pictures I could cut up for the background, came up with a pretty cool way to do stone arches, (will share later)added some old d&d figures, some glow in the dark spiders on the lower level wall, then added some wood bits to the outside of the frame to help it appear different, unique.
From what I understand he loved it
So after that build, I decided to come up with a typical D&D scenario, (immortalized forever through the glass), that me and my close friends would find themselves in on a regular basis with our DM...
so I set out to build it

So as I embarked on this journey I found several little teasures that I wanted to share with you guys, first is AC MOORE the crafting store, back in their wood bits section they carry an entire line of small wooden models that can be built. Wagons, trains, dragsters, antique cars, space shuttles, boats, the list goes on, but the cost of these guys was only $1 each, so I bought 25 of 'em
Now I have this box full of precut wood bits, suitable of course for modeling building crafting awesome stuff
So I turned that box of wood bits into this

So the bottom section slides out to the right to expose the batteries and switches for the lights, here is a side view so you can see the way I did the shelves on the sides, wanted to be able to display a couple of minis on those...
I will be posting a video tutorial on this build for all who are interested, probably be posted in next couple of days

Speechless,
I want to build something like that, but I'm awed by the work it might entail.
Very well done.

Thx Curufin, really appreciate that buddy
Nvdberg yes sir, just to let you know 2 months in the build and design process, figuring out what you want to do and how you want to do it was the most difficult, but once you have that its pretty easy...
I figured a worst case, really bad day at the office type of scene would be best, so that's why I have the two guys lowering down a lady into a hole, with rope to short, hanging over a flaming brazier, with two skeletons watching her, a huge spider up in the corner, and a glowing sarcophagus in the corner, hope all that gold in the corner is worth it lol

Epic! I've got to make one!!! thank you sir, it was actually far easier than it might appear, because most of the wood pieces to construct the box and shelves were already cut, from the those little model kits I bought. Cutting the glass was a learning experience tho

One thing that might be useful is to take window tinting sheets and put them on the interior of the cover. The UV protection should keep them from fading, and it works well to handle glare issues at the same time.
