I needed to make some wine display cases for my Rahasia build.... but the way that they turned out, I think they are perfect for displaying far more than wine.
Looks like the general store is about to open...
The Walkthrough:
I started with a number of coffee stir sticks and craft sticks. I use my V-gouge to add wood grain texture to the coffee and craft sticks. For more info on this technique click here.
Gabbing a new set of coffee stir sticks, I put a bead of glue on an edge and then tape them down edge to edge. The masking tape holds it all together while the glue dries.
Cutting and sorting parts. I also just taped together a mock-up to test all the pieces.
I started gluing one side to the top. I used a piece of making tape to help me do this. I then used a small wooden block to keep the parts at 90 degrees while the glue dries.
Glue it to the back. I set it on the back and then put a weight on it. ( the block with the clamp was just to keep the back flat as the glue dried)
Find all of the shelf pieces and sand a little angle on the back edge. (this will help marry it to the back panel)
I use another piece of masking tape to help glue the coffee stirrer shelf lip to the main shelf.
Another piece of tape holds it all together.
I added a pencil mark to locate where the top shelf will go.
Put glue on the back and left side of the shelf.
Line up with the pencil mark. I am temporarily using the right side to hold the shelf in place.
While still holding it, I add a bead of hot glue under the shelf to hold it together.
Middle shelf works the same as the top shelf.
Before I put on the bottom shelf, I hot glue on the drawer face to the bottom shelf.
Then add the bottom shelf in the same fashion as the other shelves.
Glue on the right side.
I used a slightly larger stir stick for the drawer fronts.
Glue on the drawer fronts.
With the drawer fronts on, I added the wood grain texture. I also drilled some small holes for a couple of pin head that will be the knobs.
The only think left to do is paint it up.
Flip the sign to 'Open', because this general store is ready for business!
