HOLY COW
I have never been a fan of paper minis I have been using metal figs for about 15 years.
However recently the crew I have been playing with has been adding dice to the game mat to number the minis. I understand this so the GM can differentiate which one has been hit. No doubt this is why DMScotty's figs have roman numerals on their base (BRILLIANT). I have 50-60 metal minis. Only some have the black bases that make such numbers easy. I know I need to pick some up.
ALL THAT TO SAY
I found the above links as a simple way to make paper (cardstock, foam, whatever) minis. This means that you have almost unlimited opportunities in design for very cheap. The Paper Friends site has a crapload of minis already sized.
Now most of you are crafters even more of you use minis. I would love to know what you think.

As you say gnomezrule I paint roman numerals on my minis for easy identification.

As you say gnomezrule I paint roman numerals on my minis for easy identification. Yeah I was watching about the 4th or 5th of your videos with minis in it and it hit me that would really help.
I was then really disappointed in my collection which had very few black bases. I am thinking of investing in some or wood disks so I can finish the bases and number them.
I stumbled on the paper minis because I am running a themed campaign and have a lot of generic fantasy minis. This method looked cheap which I love and immensely customizable.

I bought a box of the Pathfinder Bestiary pawns and a couple of the pawn adventure packs last year, they work great in game and mix in well with plastic minis when needed. They are particularly good for hordes of undead, goblins, kobolds etc and for the Dragons and larger/obscure monsters you don't have minis for.
I also found a couple alternate uses for them. I attached several clear card holders to my DM screen and will slip the pawns into the card holders when an NPC or monster I have a card for is around. For example the PCs in my campaign have recruited a kobold to the party so I added it to the DM screen as a reminder. And they've rescued a Marid so whenever the party encounters her I slip the Pathfinder pawn for Marid into the card holder as a visual reminder shes currently with them and what she looks like.
Its also a great way to show players what the monster they are fighting or seeing look like without having to show the players the Bestiary books. Just pass them the pawn.
I plan to eventually get the Bestiary packs 2 and 3 as well as the NPC codex when I can. They are fantastic.

What site do you refer to, Paper Friends? Did a Google search but couldn't find it.

Also, a question. I went to the Paizo site to look at what they had in way of "paper minis" and no surprise, they have a butt load! Does anyone know of any free resources?

On the Paizo sit there is paper minis which are humourous characicature minis and Pawns which are like thick heavy card stock board game pieces.

Thanks for the link! I already own the first Pathfinder Bestiary, and plan on purchasing all the others, but wanted to supplement my collection with ones I know I wanted more of (kobolds, goblins, etc..). So this looks like an amazing idea! In my searching, I DID find a site that sells single Pathfinder Pawns for like .15 to .50 per. Gonna jump all over this as well!

Ok, few questions... maybe yall have the answers!
I started dling the files from Paper Friends. Are these already formatted to the correct size? So just print and assemble? Also, what would be the BEST program to open/print this in?
I guess if I want them to resemble the stock Pathfinder Pawns, then the 3mm foam sheet is the BEST material to base them on?

I have not printed any yet. The average measurement is 1 1/4 inch height after fold by 3/4 wide. The intension according to the Paper Friends site is to fit in with the "Steve Jackson Games" "Cardboard Heroes." Personally I think the Paper Friends art is better (granted it is taken from a vast number of sources for not commercial purposes).

If I am making some before you I will let you know. One of my players just bought a tone of the Pawns. So I will try to get a few shots with them together. If they are not the right scale (with I think they are close) the other link on how to make your own pawns has the measurements which means that you can resize and crop them to paizo's scale.

Hello gnomezrule, I just have to hint at those guys, another proboards community which is diligently crafting with paper -> cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/So, if you want some cheap expansion/alternative to your full metal army, I recommend to have a close look at the 2.5 D options of full paper miniatures, not just pawns ... you will be amazed, if it's your first look at those colorful thingies.
Greetings,
paladin

In my earlier western campaign, I used paper minis for towns people as I didn't have quite enough metal minis to represent that many people.

The "Woodsies " wooden discs are perfect for basing the metal and even plastic ones that have those odd ball shaped attached bases, and are fairly inexpensive ta boot. You can get them in square or round (and I want to say they have some in rectangle and oval but I have not personally bought any so can't verify 100%)
