Hey guys! I made a small "3D Sketch" of a DM screen Idea I had I hope you guys like, and if you use it on something, please give me some credit. This was inspired in other things I have seen around the internet. Components: Middle Compartment - This is the biggest one, this would be around 30 cm high and around 49 wide. We would use this to put some sheets and books. It would also have something on the "wall" for you to put 2 custom size sheets, where you would write 'precious information' for your game. Left compartment - This compartment has got 8 smaller ones for you to keep your minis organized while you are playing, it also has 3 drawers. Small Drawer- Cushioned inside, for the DM to make secret rolls, when the PCs cant hear it, like the damage of a trap or... something like that Bigger Upper Drawer - This one would have 2 compartments inside her, one for Pawns Bases and another one for dices. Bigger Drawer 2 - This would be just for pencils, pens and erasers, or something more you want to put. Right Compartment - It would have just one drawer, to put some Pawns or to store your miniatures when you are not playing. Under that you would have a space for tablet or notebook ( One to write, not a computer) Here is the pictureHope you like Feedback and suggestions are welcome

Interesting idea. For me personally, I think it'd drive me crazy. The whole left side on both designs seems like a huge waste of space... I only keep 1 mechanical pencil and 1 pen in front of me. I keep my most-used dice in front of me. For minis, I have them in an organizer on a chair next to me, with the back of the chair facing the players so they can't see. Anything else I might need is within arms reach. That company wants $380 for something that holds 6 minis and doesn't have very many places to post tables or other important information. Having to open drawers and stuff while playing would get on my nerves, lol. I think it's a neat idea, maybe for travelling to or from a game, but not for use during. Just isn't practical, in my opinion.

Haha, everyone has got their methods, me myself I keep my Pawns in a 'Mini Oreo' Box xD Than I use the Pathfinder Box as screen, so they cant see, but this sistem isnt that pratical xD I think that when I was playing I would take the dices out, and everything I need, than it would be easier Thank you for the feedback

I think that when I was playing I would take the dices out, and everything I need, than it would be easier That's kind of my point - it's not bad for transport, but once you take stuff out the space is kind of useless. Maybe on that top part you could have a clip or a strip of metal that a magnet would stick to, so after pulling out your dice and pencils you could attach a sheet protector with info, that would simply hang over and cover that area. Then if you needed a mini you could lift the sheet and reach behind it.

I'd suggest the CAD system to vet your design, Cardboard Aided Design: make it out of cardboard, to play with the size, and function, before committing to wood. Craig Vetter is the author of the CAD system; he is the father of the modern motorcycle fairing, which possibly means nothing to you, but I just wanted to give him proper credit.
Whatever works for you, at your gaming table, is what is best for you. Our input may/may not be relevant, just remember to keep it all in proper perspective -- chew the hay, spit out the sticks, as they say. Cheers!

I want to make it, but wood isnt cheap :/ a good part of wood costs a lot... a real lot I think you are right, Thats a good option, but I still need to think of all the options That is a very good idea

I want to make it, but wood isnt cheap :/ a good part of wood costs a lot... a real lot You might want to look on craiglist or similar sites for free furniture. I've gotten a lot of pieces that way, then simply taken them apart for the wood. People are always moving, sometimes unexpectedly, and their loss can be your gain. Also keep an eye out when driving for furniture that people are throwing away. For this project, the wood that drawers are usually made of might be perfect. A couple of old dresser drawers would give you all the wood you'd need. Some dresser drawers would even provide a nice carry handle.

The Modest Magic DM Chest is way cool! I'm going to have to see if I can build my own! Of course, I'd make some changes to it!

Looking at those designs i think there is a way to use some of that space so it's a bit more useable.
So instead of having that mini storage space, how about a built in binder, then you can have printed cards ( I would laminate them for stiffness ) then you can have charts for traps DC, npc info, Game outline. This idea could be carried out on both sides with the middle to hold your books, loose papers, notes pens etc.
Some of that is why I made all my characters "spell books" with skills, feats, spells, level progression charts to try to help with the game flow and keep book searching to a minimum.
But in the end, it just has to work for you.

I find myself more and more astounded by how cool some of these professional dm screens are getting. However the pricing behind them leaves me rather unimpressed. Cool Idea though. As for making one yourself It'd be cool to see it finished. Whenever I get around to making mine, i don't think I'll have enough room for everything I need.

Thats why I am not making it, atleast for now. I am still in the trip to experience of the RPGs, só I will keep the idea, but not making it for now And I dont think I would havê room for everything I need

You never stop learning. There's always some new mechanic you left untested, or some house ruling you have to call on your own. My players have challenged the monotony of preset rulings so many times I've had to just make a call on the fly. I study and study and study the books until I'm blue in the face but ultimately there's always something your players will do that requires a spontaneous ruling. The screen is really just a formality to make your players "think" you know what you're talking about sometimes. All kidding aside, this is the dm screen I USED to have my eyes on but when I saw your idea with the subtlety and minimalist design I think I'd rather have the you showed. I'd still need to make it bigger for me though. Lol I'm such a table hog.
