Found a Brain grow in water toy at Dollar Tree that was the perfect scale for an Elder Brain and went to work on it.
First thing I did was seal the brain in pledge with Future shine to keep water out of it so it wouldn't be able to expand.
Next I repainted it to match some rubber tentacles I had in my crafting fodder box.
Then I drilled holes for the tentacles to attach to. 4 on top and 8 underneath the brain. I sealed the holes with pledge as well then hot glued the tentacles in the holes.
I built a pool for it out of a large lid, woodsies, crafting sticks, and hot glue for texture. I painted the interior of the lid Neon Green. The pool was glued onto 2, 6 inch wedding appetizer plates from Dollar tree that come 8 to a pack. I shored up the plates with popsicle sticks on the bottom and hot glue between the 2 plates to prevent any cracking from normal use.
I placed the brain with tentacles in the pool. Positioned it how I wanted then hotglued the bottom of the brain and bottom tentacles into the pool.
I covered the bottom inside of the lid in a thin layer of hot glue to thoroughly attach the brain and tentacles.
Next I glued concentric rings of hotglue from the brain to the the rim of the lid slowly crafting the pool's surface water layer. After the hot glue dried and settled I filled in any gaps and leveled the surface.
Finished it off with a thin dry brushing of neon green over the surface of the pool to give it color while maintaining some transparency, and covered the pool, brain, and tentacles in pledge future shine to give it a wet look.
I'm really happy with the final result. The bright neon colors fake a glowing effect in direct light that make it seem as though the brain and pool are pulsing with arcane energy. It will make an awesome center piece to a mindflayer encounter.
