i'd say it all depends on what were talking about. i've seen some of these people being too close minded on many subjects. not naming names. moving on as well....
that said, when its about crafting i do get the vibe you are saying. i do get the feeling of the place. and you are right in saying nobodies in competition with anybody. this is also one thing i love here. the fact that you get encouraged even if your stuff just sucks. it pushes you even though you were out of morale for it.

The huge PRO I got from DM Scotty's 2.5d method of dungeon tiles was two fold. The first is the fact that I love this kind of stuff!!! Everything about it e.g. the art, the craft, the creativity and the ease of creating these tiles. The second thing that this method did for me was to introduce me to worlds and realms that were once beyond my understanding and comprehension. I delved into the deep dark abyss of Dungeons and Dragons and have found ,at it's centre, a treasure beyond the reach of many. Thank you DM Scotty and DMG for the many adventures I have yet to take.

Late arrival to this thread, but I understand the points made on both sides. I started my 3D dungeon "journey" by making the 3D dungeon pictured here www.boardgamegeek.com/image/716485/descent-journeys-darkI loved these, but they were just too light. I also found the 1x1 tiles to be too tight and created a very cramped feeling. You can vary the wall height and I have found that with this method, a large dungeon can be made VERY cheaply. After experimenting with various methods, I modified the original dungeon with heavier materials and a 1.5x1.5 in tile. I like this much better. It is still very cheap to make. I love the look of these and the walls can be made as short or tall as you like. dmscraft.proboards.com/thread/4009/crom-trapped-dungeon

I am trying to work out my own minor variation of the 2.5D style. Currently what I have in mind is something like the square tiles black magic craft does with walls sort of like the 2.5D next I can put besides the tiles. Working on materials to use but think I might use popsicle sticks on the bottom to reinforce it and prevent warping. So trying to fuse styles I have seen others use into my own.

Welcome to the greatest crafting forum on the Internet!
Popsicle sticks can warp. Make some test pieces, and live with them for six months... They will warp within that period, if they ever will warp.
White PVA Glue will lead to warping, in my experience. I would suggest trying different glues, including Carpenter's PVA Glue, as well as E6000 Glue.
Please share with us your project, as it progresses. We would love to offer you advice, and insights we have learned along the way. Cheers!

Welcome and please let us know how your project works out. "Well, THAT didn't work" is useful knowledge to share, even though any of us are happier to share successes.
