Someone asked me what I was working on currently, so I created this thread for those who might be interested. Please keep in mind. this is an unfinished piece, and I will be updating as I progress. I got the Starter set for 5th edition last month, and was a bit smitten with the adventure inside. So I wanted to craft everything in the adventure to add to my dungeon/wilderness bits and pieces, and to present a really nice visualization for players who play through this with me. I am starting with the first cavern dungeon. It has sloping passages and bridges that cross corridors, so I decided I wanted a 2.5d/3d version of this area. I began by drawing out a large grid on a sheet of foam board. I cut out each "level" then putting another piece of foam board underneath drew and cut out each pieces. I glued them all together. Fixed a few issues so the water would not run up on the land. Let it dry overnight. I then glued some sand and rocks on the piece. Let it dry for a few hours. Painted the entire thing in black acrylic. Let it dry a few more hours. After that, I painted it 4 different shades of brown. I drybrushed each shade lighter and lighter. Mixed up two different greys and picked out some rocks. Put some pva glue and glued some flock. I that makes any sense at all.... So this is where I am so far. It is far from finished. Here is the full cavern Here is a closer look at part of the cavern

very cool. How large is this tile? I would have tried to make two tiles, cut at a vertical line at the entrance. Only to better stow it away.

How wide have you made the passages? To scale it's very tight...

How wide have you made the passages? To scale it's very tight... Well, it was exactly as the map depicted. They are supposed to be 5ft wide. The passages other than the obvious really thin one will fit a 25mm base comfortably. The skinny little passage is supposed to be like that. If the players make the climb check up that choked rubble passage. It can always sit on top to represent that. I thought the build looked pretty good, the people who have seen it in real life liked it.

I've just been told I'm running this later in the month so I begin my 2.5d build tonight You have been told you are running it... . I was going to do this in 2.5, but I wanted the bridge to actually cross the corridor. That is the reason for the 2.5/3d thing.

Well, I offered ages ago so it's my own fault really! You've done a cracking job , just wish I had the space to do that myself! I had this vague plan of using double layer card on the elevated bits to show the change in height, but whether I'll bother I don't know.

Now that I am looking at the map, you could do everything 2.5d with an arched bridge over the river tile.

That really looks amazing(50), Jason! The layered foam board looks incredible(40), just like layers of sediment. I love how the water has cut through the rock. You really have a remarkable(30) attention to detail. Two big thumbs up! I cant wait to see more...

Keeping in mind I spent some karma points on that. BTW.. I chose Probability Manipulation as my superpower.

Nice work on the tile. If you want to keep doing 2.5/3d with this level I would maybe suggest using some of the Pink insulation foam. 4x4 sheet around here is about $5 I would imagine that foam core cost you a bit more. You can then layer in cardboard to layer in.

Well I made more progress. Cleaned up the top. Did more highlighting on the rocks and cliff sides. Built and painted the bridge. Used some of the Hirst cavern pieces broke one up for variety. Added another color of flock to add some depth to the grassy area. Added some clump foliage. Played with Realistic Water. This is the first time I am actually using it for its intended use. I am cursing the many furry animals in the house, because it is collecting random hairs and dust particles. Will have to find a place with less air circulation next time when I am using it. The water is cloudy in the picture. It will dry clearish. I added a small amount of dark blue to the water to tint it slightly during the first application. The second which is what is drying has no tint. Anyways... a bit more work to go. Have some dungeon pieces to build and paint. A few trees to put together and such. I am going to add some water effects as well.
