So I recently pulled out my old WoD Werewolf The Apocalypse book and my gaming crew and I instantly to wanted to play. Just got done with fantasy setting, so modern seemed a fun idea. So I gather the supplies always needed: hot glue, boxes and the box cutter, Bloodletter.
Now the problem is I'm having an artistic block. While I know of a few ways to make details and texture such as brick or any other stone variation really, I don't know how to exactly make skyscrapers. Outside of using a longer(deep) box. And as always, my painting skills are.. Lacking so any direction in that regard is of gold.
I am planning on using boxes that are still in box form as well.

Why make a skyscraper? Or why not even. You could make L shaped brackets for the corners and have some internal reinforcement bars.

Full 3d sky scrapers would be hard to do and really get in the way at the table. I would make buildings that are 3 or 4 inches high so that there could be alleys. Then 2.5d the necessary floors.
The facades of the buildings can be difficult. Brick is seen a lot but when your dealing with sky scrapers you have a lot of full glass buildings. In which case you could try painting the facades a base color light blue, grey, orangy grey (the color of window tintings). Then cut 2x1 inch pieces from clear plastic like you find in product blister packs, muffins or other food from the bakery section and so on.

Oh I forgot. Mirror tiles. I know archetectural models of buildings use a lot f mirror tiles for the windows on modern buildings.

hmm, based on everything you guys said.. I may have a shot at this after all. And yes I know true 3D can easily get in the way, but I don't plan on the buildings being out for more than a moment or so(why make em at all eh?) but I do end up doing a lot of outer world(not in a building/cave/dungeon) play so I may never know. Plus there is something about setting the table with all possible locations to visit laid out and when that gets hidden by beautiful 3d-ness well.. I Nerd-gasm just a bit. It just looks so good, plus car chases will be a blast when you can see the road and not have to imagine it(along with all details around said road.) Pics as soon as I get my first building done(with progression pics in between.)

If you have them, the stackable plastic storage crates work extremely well, you can easily make it extremely modular by taking a stone spray to the entire thing and then hitting it with some watered down black paint via a house painting brush...take some of the semi-transparent plastic sheets used to tint window to line the interior if you want. Stack them upside down with cardboard floors attached to the bottoms to cover the floors you want. And on top of the in game uses, it works great for transporting your materials if you need to do so...

If you want skyscrapers and modern/future(?) Building, air con units and roads hawk wargaming have a large selection of free printer friendly downloads. They are all for 10mm but would be a great place to start www.hawkwargames.com/pages/downloads

Also, if you want to do an all-glassed in skyscraper, try using plain silver Mylar to represent the glass. You can probably find some at the Dollar Store in the gifts wraps.

You can also find cheap mylar blankets in the camping supplies at walmart. About $1, and one blanket would be tons of craft material.

No Walmart in UK, and Woolies has gone but the foil they use for muller yoghurt looks good as city windows

The camping blankets are a great idea! Why didn't I think of that? Look for then in an Army Surplus store? (Don't know what those are called in the UK, British Military Surplus?), they can also be found in first-aid supply kits. Look in your local pharmacy or chemists(?). Another source for Mylar are the shiny Mylar balloons. You should be able to find those at almost any birthday party. My husband says that Mylar, or something very similar, comes in rigid sheets, too. No idea where you might find such a thing... Can't think of anything else at the moment. Let us know how your search goes.
