Hi all.
I am very, very new to crafting & DMing, but am fascinated by all this, and have begun starting up a group composed of family members only, for the time being. Most of us are newbies, with only a couple of D&D hours between us. I actually started them at level zero, so we could try to learn spells & abilities.
Our 'core group' is just two people in our immediate family, but we have another who wants to join in a different city who will hopefully be joining us via Google conference call & cam monitors on a regular basis. Since our tiny core group is further along in the scenario, I wanted to make it easier for him to catch up with us. I have filled him in with some of the basic storyline, so this quick start isn't as cruel as it sounds.
What is cruel, is that I want him to join the group by landing in a pile of live maggots.
I plan on starting him at an old shed, where my NPC has been waiting with a supply wagon, and is worried about the length of time that has passed from when she expected the rest of the party. She will direct him towards a trap door that hides the secret entrance to an old mining chute. This chute is extremely steep, and should deposit him just outside the room that the core group is in.
I think I will NOT try to make the chute itself; actual time in it would amount to seconds only, and it would later on have too few uses.
But I will probably make the shed outline, somekind of a trap door, and most certainly - the landing site. Best part of the dungeon!
I thought I could possibly use glued-on rice for the maggots? Since the spiders in this basement/dungeon are overlarge, having giant maggots doesn't seem too far-fetched an idea, but I am definitely open to other ideas, too, and have not started on either the shed or the landing site.
Anything that costs real money is out of my budget, so just the cardboard and existing throw-away materials is what I use.
Any ideas?
