I'm starting a "Hulks and Horrors" campaign in about a week and a half, so my crafting is changing from fantasy focused to sci fi focused. (Okay, it's kinda fantasy sci fi, but still...)
Here's the game www.bedroomwallpress.com/p/hulks-and-horrors.html
Today I decided to use some 3L bottle blanks to make some cryotubes (for suspended animation.) I'm not entirely happy with the results, but failure is often as important as success, so here goes....
Started off with some bottle blanks. I didn't end up using all 3.
I used a Dremel-type tool to cut these. They are EXTREMELY hard to cut this way. The friction melts the plastic. In the future, I will use a PVC pipe cutter and/or hacksaw.
Originally, I was going to use bits of plastic drinking straws to make up the "padding" in the suspended animation area inside the tubes. The straws ended up being too thick, so I went to stripped cardboard. In retrospect, I should have been more patient getting all the extra bits of paper off the cardboard. I guess it just looks worn/damaged or old or (crappy) or something.
The tubes slide over the "padding." I spraypainted this part white, then I glued the tubes in place.
I'm making a cardboard angular frame to hold the tubes in place. It's hot glued to the back of the tube piece.
Here it is "finished." I need to paint the indicator buttons -- I tried to do some work with permanent Sharpies, but that's not good. I also need to think of a way to make this look less "blah." Any ideas? Maybe a wash? Dunno. Let me know what you think.
I used some bits of drinking straw to add detail to the back. Also, I'm thinking about using texture paste to "fill in" the cardboard edges.
Okay, lesson learned. Get out the minis and check the scale FIRST. These must be cryotubes for GIANTS. Not necessarily a bad thing... might scare the bejeezus out of the players. ...And they are EMPTY...
