I made some crystal columns for the big dark elf finale. They are made from 3L bottle blanks and color changing tealights. I streaked hot glue all over their surface to increase reflectivity/opacity. They are a bit top heavy, so I made some cardboard bases to keep them steady.

Where'd you get the blanks? About 9 years ago, I was doing a teacher science workshop and I called the local bottling plant. They sent me a box no charge.
