Big thank you and hat tip to monkeywithtacos for the inspiration! The campaign I am running is wrapping up. It will be ending with a big climactic battle in a drow temple. Plenty of surprises for the players to come! I wanted to make a custom tile for the event. I think it will be completely adequate to the task. The altar, on the other hand, is pretty cool. I started off with a large sheet of cardboard. I knew that I needed to make a large ellipse, so I rigged up a string and two tacks to draw it. Here are some of my rough sketches. I've marked entrances from the "legs" of the temple. Here it is. The legs aren't done (they'll look like regular stone.) I textured the temple itself with a sponge. Here's the upper level -- the "head" of the spider. Here it is with the symbol to Llolth drawn on. (No, I don't know if that's actually her symbol... I drew it "artistically" I was inspired by monkeywithtacos and his altar. I made my own. I decided to make the spider very abstract and I skipped the face entirely. I'm very happy with the dimensionality of the legs. I didn't do this up as a tutorial. It's basically three circles and some 1/4" strips of cardboard, bent into legs. Hot glue is your friend. Note how two legs are in front of the large sphere and two are behind. I made the torches freestanding so they can be repurposed to other rooms/projects.

Amazing dude! Alters and other things to do with rituals are the best!

Excellent work! Love the concept. Love the torches. Sounds like this would be a good game to be in.

I was organizing my crafting supplies this morning, when I stumbled upon a Sculpey mold I'd forgotten about. It's a series of feminine faces. Because I'm an inveterate tinkerer, I made a face and revisited my Llolth altar. Once again, hat tip to monkeywithtacos for his inspiration! I actually think the altar is scarier because the face is so kind and gentle looking. We know that's NOT the case...

Here's the Temple in use. The "ropers" are actually Yochlol (Handmaiden's of Llolth) The Yochlol were in "mist form" under the upper level at the beginning of the encounter.

Holy crap!!! That looks amazing! I love how it all came together. That is one scary looking encounter. WELL DONE!
EDIT: Also, thanks for showing us the tiles in use. I think too often we see stuff being built, but never see it in action. Thank you for the update!

Here are some more pics of the Drow Temple finale. This pic is of a Yochlol fighting with Torn Kinslayer. Torn has been "Enlarged" so I gave him a larger mini. (A Dreamblade Knight of Autumn) Drow warriors marching to reinforce their Spider High Priestess The High Priestess on her giant phase spider mount. Twofer the Rogue battling with the assistance of an air elemental summoned by Garron the Paladin. At the start of the battle. The party enters the temple and sees their foes! Many pictures were taken. The High Priestess and her lesser priestesses are trying to summon an ancient, legendary dragon. A dragon that will be a world-ender. Another shot from the party POV.

Wilmanric where did you pick up the drow warriors marching at?Your entire layout was awesome and well thought out. Your players have an awesome DM/GM I think they are not technically drow, but they look good as drow huh? They are Zhent Champions. DnD prepaints. I like minis that can serve several purposes.

It really looks great, I love the two tiers. Thanks! I decided that since Drow can levitate, they'd have a higher spot for their altar, thus making it more difficult on the non-drow "visitors." Plus, I made those big dungeon textured blocks. Gotta use them for something!

Wilmanric, I can stop looking at this encounter. While I am not overly fond of using Drow in my campaigns, I feel a need to do something like this. I thought at some point you said it was for a Pathfinder game, but now I cant find any indication of that. Looking at the pictures, The character sheets look vaguely 3rd edish, but I see a 2nd ed (phb?) book open. What system did you run this in?
