I took the picture of the final version and will be using that in my roll20.net game tomorrow night.
Hope I didn't violate your copyright, but that pic was too good not to steal.

Outstanding build. I am needing a roper mini for an encounter down the road and I was just contemplating whether a company made one. Now I have the solution-- build it! Thanks for this!

There are several minis by Wizkids for pathfinder and dungeons and dragons miniatures. However, I find some of the sculpts silly... It is a Roper, but they don't look menacing.

I have since made another Roper and made some notes on the process in the first post for those who are attempting this build.

Jason, great roper and tutorial, I think I am going to use your technique for a special Mighty Gluestick episode (crafting an encounter: The Roper). Very nice work!

I love this. So many aberrations lack traditional anatomies and can be modeled easily. We should compile a list somewhere.

Part one, talking about the Roper and how best to use it. Quick tip, if you want to seriously kill an entire party of adventurers, put four ropers in a huge cavern, so each is in a corner 45 feet from the next Roper, have them attack from the ceiling, with a large pool of flammable grease in the center of the cavern, and in various sheltered hollows carved into many stalactites, a small group of Mind Flayers, who strike at grappled victims and suck the brains out of their heads, in between the Ropers lifting the victims and dropping them repeatedly into the middle of the burning pond of grease. If thats not sufficient, add some goblin javelin throwers who are sneaking around a rickety little rope bridge, suspended half way up the cavern walls.
Thats a Roper TPK right there.
Video two will be me scratch building a Roper using almost the same technique as Jason.. with a few differences.

Those are some solid tips about the use of Ropers in a game. Terrific.
