These are my Heroquest minis (some remnants from Dark World are there too). I am by no means a pro at mini painting (my eyesight just won't let me do fine detail) but I think these are fine for tabletop.
I have tons more that I'm working on (all the Descent games & expansions, some Reaper Bones and the D&D Board games) along with prepainted ones from D&D, Heroscape and Pathfinder. I'm also painting the armies of BattleMasters, just to do it. On these, I used the Minwax dip method (with dullcote afterward) because I wanted a tough acrylic coat that would stand up to my girls. For my others I am using shading and washes and then matte spray varnish.

Very nice, thanks for sharing! I wish I had all those rare minis, especially the Ogres. I only have the core set plus 12 town guard I got from a French new edition box on Ebay. Anyway, these look great! If you're interested, I have pics of most of the ones I've finished in my painting thread.

Oh, and for some inspiration, check these out. Just scroll down about half way to "Ode to HQ: More Fantastic Pictures...". There are more at the bottom of the page, but they're not quite as mind blowing as these. Kinda makes me feel bad for my minis--they deserve to look this incredible--but I'll never be able to paint like this. realmofchaos80s.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Lovely to see these older minis. I think these older classic sculpts have much more character than most modern day offerings.
My ability to paint well was improved greatly once I purchased some magnifying specs for myself. That and painting in a well lit workspace can do a lot to assist aging eyes to see fine detail.

I always keep my eyes open for HQ stuff at garage sales. One day it will pay off I hope.

I am dyed in The Dip, so to speak. I paint armies for BattleSystem mass battles, and I need to finish painting in this lifetime... It's the only one I will get. I do simple block painting, on most of my figures, then The Dip, and dull coat. It works just fine for my GEtGW standard (Good Enough to Game With), which is good enough for my table. Your figures look just fine -- and they are painted! That is a worthy accomplishment, something to truly be happy with. Dying with a pile of unpainted figures is not any sort of prize, trust me... Cheers!
