A female Archer from Reaper, I forget her name. I sealed her with floor wax and testors dullcote, but she's still a bit shiny.

Since I'm posting all these HeroQuest minis, I thought I'd stick this gargoyle from dragon strike in, too. I painted him a long time ago and apparently didn't worry too much about his eyes... And I'm all caught up. Thanks for dropping in!

Amazing paint jobs everywhere. Not sure what you mean about the orcs - I think they look great. They're a little monochromatic (at least in the pics), which is a nice style, but I think a little color variance at this scale really makes minis pop. Nothing extreme, but something to draw the eye in - like your goblin in the red tunic. It's still a relatively soft red, but gives the eye something to snack on as it passes over the figure. Some darker blues, purples or reds could help separate different areas of the figure more, so sheaths don't blend into armor, etc.

Thanks Beetlewing, for the compliments and the suggestion. I think that is definitely part of what bugs me about them. Even though I tend to paint in more natural, earthy tones, some color definitely helps pick out the details. I'll play around and see what I can come up with for the next batch, but I'm not really sure where I can get away with much color, as they appear to be mostly leather and metal armor. Maybe I just need to take a chance with a couple. Thanks again!

What about something more like rawhide, which is light in color?

Bloodchoke who says u have to paint armor the normal colorations or anything for that matter? Green chainmail, golden plate, red steel. So many variations to choose from lol. U always do a remarkable job on ur builds and minis. Keep it up dude

Thanks Dragon. I'll play around with a couple of these and try out some different variations. I can always just use the one's with the silly Jordy LaForge visors for experimenting.

I said before that I'm a slow painter, and with my game no longer running, I've slacked off even more. I've painted exactly one miniature since the last upload, this Ogre Chieftan from the Bones line. I was feeling a bit discouraged from the mantic orcs still, so I took my time on this guy and I'm pretty happy with how he turned out. Thanks a lot beetlewing and dragon722 for your suggestions about the orcs. This guy's still rather monotone, but I tried to bring in some lighter shades along with the red shorts. The rawhide suggestion was great, and I think it turned out pretty well on his wraps. In hindsight, I wish I had painted his beard a trollslayer orange, but it's too late for that. May still add a severed head to the empty fist if I can find one, though. Sorry if all the grass and stuff is distracting. Thought I would try natural lighting, but should have carried a back drop with me.

Bloodchoke ur Ogre Chieftain is sick as hell. I think it is an awesome job. Ur natural backdrop selection for the piece is perfect. The ogre is staring out over the horizon on a high up hill surrounded by forest looking for his next victim and / or dinner lol.

Nice Ogre Chieftain! I also tried painting this one. It's my first time using the wash technique, and I was really surprised what a difference it makes. Here is my Ogre using the wash technique: Ogre Chieftain Images

Very cool, really like the green skin tone. Thanks a lot for sharing!
And washes are amazing. It blew my mind when I first painted the heroquest undead and saw what a good brown wash could do. Agrax Earthshade should be in every painters box, in my opinion.
In other news, I'm down to 6 HQ minis left to paint. I may just finish that project this year after all.

So true - I just had that exact experience with my Wargames Factory skeletal warriors, using Earthshade. Now I keep fighting the urge to use it on all my other minis, like the bones Innkeeper I just basecoated lol
