Bloodchoke, can I ask a favor? Can I get you to post a pic of the dragon and the troll next to the wizard mini so I could get an idea of scale on them? I recently picked up the Paizo Pathfinder Red Dragon Evolution set (I already have the White Dragon Evolution) and while they are beautiful mini's they seem rather small to me. They are mounted on the appropriately sized bases, but they seem to me to be closer to a 1/72 scale and I'm wondering if it's just me, or what, lol....Same with trolls, except going the other direction, the D&D mini trolls that I painted from the Legend of Drizzt set seem to be massive, especially when compared to the various dragons I have.....The dragons, to me, all seem to be a size and a half too small....
Thanks in advance.....

I've been trying to build up my confidence enough to paint my PCs. This guy is my first, Daegan of the Flame, a human fire wizard my brother plays. He was fairly simple since his face was obscured, but I didn't realize until I had decided on color how difficult red is to paint. I started with a very dark red-black shade and highlighted up, but since I'm not very good at highlighting/glazing, had to add some washes to clean it up. *If there are any other n00bs reading, use a purple wash to shade red. You can find some useful videos on youtube on doing this. I imagine GW makes a really nice wash for this, but I just mixed my own by adding some blue to a thinned red glaze. I like this guy, so sorry if this is too many pictures... BTW, I don't have a brush on clear coat, so he's still a bit shiny. Reminds me of a certain Majere brother.

Anyway, hope these help. And no problem at all man. DMJ, he is a big dragonlance fan, so not sure that was entirely coincidental. Hadn't really occurred to me until you pointed it out, though.

And since this is getting bumped, here's a WIP of the HeroQuest Barbarian I just started. I have two copies of him too, and this one's sword was broken. I made this replacement from a rather thick piece of plastic, and I used a nail file and sandpaper to give it a bit of an edge. I was going for a rather iconic look, but I may have made it too big.

Thank you! The Reaper troll is actually smaller than the D&D miniatures one by a fair amount. It is as large as some of the giants I have, and next to dragons it looks massive, as if the trolls could lay the smack down on the dragon with little effort.... I know Reaper has a couple other dragons in their Bones line. Ebonwraith is one that I think is pretty good for a black dragon size wise. Kaladrax Reborn is probably on par with what I think of when I imagine an ancient dracolich as far as size goes..... "crap in your breeches" size I have heard it referred to, lol..... Nethyrmaul is another one that looks cool, but I haven't seen it next to a "standard" mini, like the wizard above.

Because of all the snow days we've been having down here in the south lately, I have some updates. We'll start with something custom. I was playing around with some oven baked clay one night and my brother's fiancee decided she wanted to make a dragon. She's isn't twelve, in case your wondering just how deep in the south I live, she's just...playful. And she might have had some drinks that night. Anyway, she gave it back probably expecting me to smash it up, and was pretty surprised when I showed her the finished product. This is probably what I will kill my party with... I'm just putting this here since we all love toy conversions. Nothing special, just used super glue to coil him up and stick him to the base and then a quick paintjob. Here are the Castle Dwellers DM Scotty posted about a while back. I used Sculpey and 3/4" washers to make bases for them and hit most of them with a wash.

Heroquest Orcs: Old Warhammer Skeletons. Bought them years ago already assembled, but 3 of them lost their weapon hands over the years. Not sure what I'm going to replace them with.

I meant to this guy as a WIP, but I didn't get anymore pictures until I was finished. Anyway, this is going to be used for a PC named Tok in my game. I practiced layering skin tones with him, and it turned out ok, but not exactly what I was going for. I painted this guy really quickly while I was waiting on some Miliput to set. He will be used for a third PC in my game, Similaeus Ferevan, until I get around to painting his regular mini. I've been afraid to tackle it yet, so painted this one up for the meantime.

And since I started this update with a custom figure, I'll end with a couple too. First, a Dimensional Shambler, made of Milliput with a green goblin figure for an armature. This was my first effort with Milliput, so I made a lot of mistakes, but learned a bit about how to use the stuff. This was my inspiration: www.amazon.com/Call-Cthulhu-Miniatures-Dimensional-Shamblers/dp/B001N1412I/ref=pd_ybh_17Now things get a bit ridiculous from here. Since one of my shamblers didn't work out, I decided to take on this Eldritch Horror called Gug. He looks like this: www.amazon.com/Eldritch-Horror-Chronoscope-Miniature-Figures/dp/B001S6OXFS/ref=sr_1_31?m=A1TSGFSK21EASQ&s=merchant-items&ie=UTF8&qid=1392093821&sr=1-31&keywords=fantasy+miniatureI made an armature from wire and tenfoild and then begin sculpting with miliput. As I was doing it, well, its resemblance occurred to me, so I just kinda went with it. Probably NSFW, so I'll just post a link. i.imgur.com/anB3wUA.jpgi.imgur.com/TL84LSd.jpg

The minis look good, bloodchoke! I started painting up my HeroQuest Orcs a while ago and finished all of them. Still have to paint the other minis though!

Thanks guys! I think the snake would work just as well in 20mm, farfade. It came from a pack that i found for a dollar somewhere. The trick to bending it is to make small relief cuts. If you look close, you'll notice the head is kinda concealing them. I'm sure there's a better way, but I couldn't figure it out. Boiling them didn't help.
Skunkape, I would love to see your HQ orcs if you have a picture. Maybe at some point we can all make an entire HQ thread.

Doh, couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting the quote of your thread, was clicking the like button instead! Embarrassing! LOL! Anyway bloodchoke, I'll have to take some pictures of them for you! Yours look much better than mine though!

Thanks guys. I have around 20 more I've painted since updating, so I'll try to get to a camera soon and post a few. Mostly working on Mantic orcs and HeroQuest figures at the moment.

All these red goblins around lately made me want to hunt down a few of my own. These guys were Legendary Encounters, but were painted really poorly, so I re-primed and painted them. Definitely lost some detail, but they turned out ok I think. Just ignore the archer in the back though. He knows what he did...
