Few more pics after playing around with it.. Details are rather nice. I find it shines on small objects. And my understanding is those tiny bits are the hardest to get right with resin?

Hot glue casting... this is brilliant!
On top of hirst arts molds, seeing as you can make oogoo molds of pretty much anything (personally I'd use my 3D printer to make interesting pieces), this simple idea opens up a -lot- of possibilities.
I think dollar stores have plenty of cheap packs of hot glue sticks...

For me it's not the details you miss its getting the very small pieces to cast properly. Like small bottles or cups.

Haven't found glue sticks at the dollar store, but Walmart has good prices

Has anyone tried to do the reverse of this? Mold something out of clay to make a mold from hot glue? I wouldn't mind casting in plaster (as it is SUPER cheap) if I could make hot glue molds.

I've heard it's possible, but never tried it.

Got some painted up mainly floor tiles and two skulls but i made a little display for ya. And as for the smaller bits, its my personal opinion that hot glue works really good on small bottles, cups, books, bedrolls and jars. book looks tarnished but its the bottom side that wont be view.. (had to put a piece of carboard on it to flatten it out.. too much glue lol)

I'm loving the results you're getting. Is your glue gun high temp or not?

You were right about those small items looking really nice, though I still reckon you could use some silicon bakeware stuff to help with flattening the bottom on those bottles

I was using a low a small low temp glue gun for all of the items above. Walmart and the other various craft peddlers seem to all be out of the bigger hot glue sticks I need for my larger high temp glue gun (conspiracy!) I'm definitely going to pick up a few spatulas made of silicon to continue this craft. But until the Big 'un is recommissioned for gluing, ill avoid the bigger molds. As I can get easier and faster results doing the intended method of mix, pour, wait/bake.

Give it shot, it don't cost nuthin.

I found this link . It's an article titled Vol. 08 Mold Making, penned by Adam Savage. You will need a subscription to Make magazine to view it however.
