I am planing to introduce my players to some lizardmen river pirates and I came up with an idea not to make regular beds but hammocks for the crew to sleep in. So I used some thin rope, matchstick, card stock and the inevitable hot glue and made a couple. First I made the base from one piece of 9 cm rope , and two pieces of 7 cm and hot glued them in the shape of a leaf. Then kept adding the vertical support from small pieces of ropes. On the card stock I hot glued two 2.5 cm pieces of matchsticks as a support beams on which the hammocks are tied. After that , the hammock was hot glued between the support beams. It looks like this. Undercoated the hammocks with black and painted the base brown and the ropes with a yellow/brown/white mix. And here is a picture of them on a tile...

Thanks people. It is good to be a member of such a supportive community. The truth is that I was inspired with tauster's pasta experiments . U should, if not already, see his thread about it.

Nice job. That paints hides the globby nature of the glue well. Have you considered using cheesecloth? Regardless they look great.

They look great!
...and I second the cheesecloth idea - used to use that on WW2 ground vehicles as rolled up camo netting. Also could be used for old fishing nets thrown in the corners above or below deck on your ships.

Yes, cheesecloth is a viable option, and probably a better looking one, alas, I used materials that I found at my home at that moment. Also the good thing is, you don't have to worry about the loose edges if the cloth begins to tear away - when you cut it. I am thinking about a different type of hammocks to craft, one with a square base. I'll post it when I'm finished (one day anyway ). The use of the cloth as fishnet is great too...

Great hammocks! ...oh, and great pasta idea too - this kind of design didn't occur to me. I'm going to copy this idea and maybe paint'em in slightly metallic colors. These make great underdark crystal formations...
