Had a few folks express interest in the desk. Thought it would be a good idea to post a picture tutorial. I tried putting this all in one post but it kept locking up (stupid tablet!), so I am going to break it up.
I used jumbo tongue depressors, cardstock, scissors, a ruler and marker, a hot glue gun, brushes, and black/brown/yellow/white/silver paint.

Glue on front. Next, measure a piece of tongue depressor (lollipop stick) to seal the drawer section.

Here you can see where I added the wood to seal the drawer section.

Next I added card stock for the drawers.

Then it is time to paint. I base it black, coat in brown, and then add touches of yellow for aging. Then I apply white for highlights. I don't have hardware for the drawers so I globbed on some silver paint. Here is the finished product with mini for scale. Hope this is useful!

Great! Thanks for sharing! Now you just need to add a "topper"! (Non-attached cardstock, cut to fit the top, with items attached to it - like books, scrolls, a candle, etc... I think it'd really make it pop.)

Nice. You can also use cheap coffee stirrer sticks glued to paper and get the look of a desk made with small boards.
