I've been on this forum for about a month now and I've watched every tutorial you guys have put on here. I really love how you all have such a sense of community and how you treat everybody's work. I've been playing D&D 3rd and 3.5 edition for 10 years now, and DMing for about 8 years. I've played with grids from the start, with minimal crafting (drawing on the said grid, most of the time), and I came to find it boring. Then I found DMscotty's and TheDMG's youtube channels and had an illumination! I was to become a DMcrafter. I've begun a lot of crafting projects lately and I take lots of pictures that I'll post here before long. I have to thank you all for being such a great source of inspiration.

I'm a newbe here myself.
Welcome aboard.
I know I've been learning from my own mistakes, and gaining inspiration from seeing what the other folks are doing.... Sometimes feel like a crayon artist walking through the art museum looking at painting by vanGogh and other greats.
I know what you mean about the gridless. First few vids I was was like "where are the grids" but not I look and see a grid and see how it distracts from the tile.
Post some pics!

Grid vs gridless is really a design decision and has very little to do with the actual crafting tips and techniques shared here. My group likes grids mostly, and I've used lots of tips and tricks from this site on my terrain.

My group likes grids mostly, and I've used lots of tips and tricks from this site on my terrain. I didn't mean any offense adamantinedragon, and I've mentionned that I have played with grids for 10 years. I just wanted to say that I'm going to craft from now on, and that it's easier for my players to see the terrain that way, because I'm not using the dry erase markers to draw it on the grids anymore. But, in the meantime, I happen to have found gridless very intuitive and fun, and that grids take our mind off the action a bit. Its just a matter of opinions and I respect you for stating your point. In the future, I'll talk more about crafting and less about grids.

No offense was taken Vod, and I apologize if it came out that way. I seem to have a knack for stating things in ways that seem to be defensive or reactive. I just wanted to point out that the stuff we do on this site mostly transcends gaming preferences like grid vs gridless, and even to a large extent, 2.5 vs 3D. Most of the stuff is just great stuff to know and apply how people best feel it can support their specific neads.
That's all I was trying to say.

That's what I have liked so far being here... You like grid I like gridless. You like X game mechanics, I like Y mechanics. We both agree that it is an opinion that is different from person to person. I've looked through the forums and have not seen any flame wars (which is a good thing). Seems like everyone is contented to focus on the craft and gaming and not on the nit picking you see on some forums.

Been pulling long work days so my crafting has suffered... feast or famine with my job (few weeks on with a week or two off).
One thing that seems to be the case here is the sense of community as voduchyld mentioned. I think it's a case of everyone from the pro to the newbe knowing that no one is going to be super wicked awesome right out of the gate. And seems like that everyone is their own worse critic. When you make something you know where all the little flaws and imperfections are, even if no one else can see them. And with knowing that you can make the next thing even better by trying to do away with the imperfection that was on your last project.
Gridless. I got drawn to it because I am using GURPS (which uses hexes instead of squares). Trying to draw a bunch of hexes would have been a complete and utter PitA. I sort of look at the grid/less arguments the same way I look at system and version (game mechanics) arguments. Everyone has a preference for what suits them. The important thing that matters is we all play.
*In my best GrandPa voice* back in my day we didn't have no no terrain or rules for minis. We had the red box, Top Secret, Gangbusters, and Gamma World and we were happy!
