I have been watching the videos for a while, just started getting serious about watching them this past week.
I didn't know that there were some sci fi vids out there, DM Scotty told me to check out the steel grate floors one when I commented him on youtube.
Also my first thread that I read had someone say that he likes the troll free environment. Someone is not going to nick pick. I like that idea. There is a huge difference between a person offering constructive criticism, a hint to make something better, or saying "that's neat but I would do X this way instead of your way" & having someone come around saying "that sucks, you suck!". If there is a rough part of a project and someone says "I had that problem and this is how I found to sort it out or make it easier" is way cool..... No one starts out a project as an expert.
First thing I really noticed was that a lot of the stuff can be transferred from one genre to the next. The structure of what is needed is sound, just basically some cosmetic changes. Such as changing a paint scheme or something like that.
But I do have some questions and comments I will throw out to the hive mind here.
I like the idea of using the wet toilet paper and glue. It's simple and cheap.... But I was wondering if anyone has used joint compound (aka "mud" for sheet rock) to do some work. I've worked with it when doing dry wall and the only two down sides I can see with using it would be the drying time and that it tends to soak in paint like a frat boy on 25 cent beer night. The other draw back might be that it is more brittle than the toilet paper/glue method...... It may be nice for more of a spot on or certain detail working.
Primarily I tend towards sci fi. How in the name of Steve Jackson & Gary Gygax can I make some simple counter/figures? I know I can use some armatures and clay to make a few space suited figures, which I have never done before..... My idea would be for the first few ones to KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid). Have the minis in a "hard" EVA suit as it would mean having to sculpt less detail on the body and head..... With some of the nice tiles and other stuff I have been seeing it would sort of be a shame to use counters.
I do have a design (need to get my poop in a group) and draw out the deck plan. I said I would on an old school gamer group on FaceBook. It would be nice to take pictures of and post here. Sort of taking the idea that the Dungeon 2.5D concept is very adaptable.
