Hello fellow DMs!
You can call me Broodstar. I'm 26 years old and I've been playing D&D 4th Edition for a little over two years, DMing for one year. Yeah, yeah, I've heard plenty of 4E being "inferior" to other editions, but my playgroup really enjoys it, it is what we started off with, and the resources are readily available at most book/gaming stores around where I live. And I like all the books too. About a month ago I stumbled upon DM Scotty's youtube channel, and then DMGinfo's, and I have been infatuated with the idea of crafting my own terrain for my campaign. I currently have been using the official dungeon tiles and maps in the D&D Essentials line, and they've been helpful so far with introducing me to DMing, but they don't give the depth that I want in my campaign. I've also been using the basic adventures (which were kind of stale, in my opinion), and after a year I feel like I can start branching off and making my own adventures.
I have also recently moved to a new place (same town), so I have plenty of boxes laying around for me to cut up and paint. I just picked up some basic tools at my hobby store and I'm hoping I can get some time this week to start making some tiles myself for the first time. So I am here to learn from you all about how to craft these awesome tiles and sceneries for my campaign, and maybe also how to better myself as a dungeon master as well. :-)
Take care!
-Broodstar
P.S. Also a little about myself: I am a geek by heart. Grew up on the NES/SNES, been a Nintendo fan ever sense, and when the original Diablo and Starcraft games came out, been a Blizzard fan ever sense. :-) I also collect and play Magic: the Gathering, Star Wars X-Wing miniatures game, and my wife and I play board games (we like Firefly [it mirrors the tv show so it is awesome], Civilization, Dominion, Ascension, Pandemic, Red Dragon Inn, Settlers of Catan, and quite a few others). My wife is also very crafty; she likes to knit, crochet, and sew. I'm going to try to get her to make me a warlock costume for Ren Fest this year. We also like to watch Doctor Who, and similar shows.
