Ran last night's session without the grid on the table. Previous sessions I've been running just via theater of the mind, but finally got some more western terrain done. Nice thing about BRP, human sized characters can move about 10 inches in game scale. While BRP uses a metric system, 1 inch equals 1 meter, I've switched it to 1 inch equals 1 yard, so it's more easily understood by the rest of the players. Used a tape measure for the bad guys, PCs were held up in an old shack with steampunk zombies chasing 1 of them. Was a great fight and looks like the players will be good with playing using no grid. I need to find the few measuring sticks I made and make some more as they're easier to use than the damn tape! I'll be posting pictures of the western buildings as I get time!

Sounds like Deadlands...very cool. Yeah, some of the inspiration comes from Deadlands. The general idea for the campaign world came from an episode of the Dragon's Landing podcast, where they talked about fantasy races in a western setting! I thought that would be a neat twist, so I got a copy of the SW Deadlands rules and set up the campaign world, ran 1 campaign using SW. Now though I'm using BRP with the Edges rules from SW as house rules! So far it's a fun campaign! The name of the campaign is the Deadwood Deacon, that's the website link. I haven't updated the website lately, but since I'm running the game again, I need to get back to work on the site!
