Looks awesome! I have only created one water tile and I used Mod Podge. It works great. Looking forward to seeing more work from you.

Just to clarify, are each of your 6x6 squares 3 or 4 foamboard layers?

Personally, I'm using 6X6 and 3 layers. This, however, is arbitrary. The important thing is to stay consistent. Use enough layers that you can stack multiple boards to create hills and scenery, but there is no reason it needs to be specifically 3 layers. I like to think of 1 layer equaling 5 feet in depth or elevation. I'd really like to see some people try this out in cardboard. Post pictures here if you end up trying it.

I recently "lucked" into a bunch of 12x12 cork tiles and was considering using them as you did your wilderness tiles, including utilizing of the backside. I arrived at the realization of standardizing the depth. I was considering 2x layers and placing separate terrain pieces, such as tree stands & hills, on the terrain tiles. Your 6x6 wilderness and 3x3 cavern foamboard tiles got me thinking about smaler cork tiles, such as drink coasters, which are 3x3 at Walmart and Ikia. The nice qualities of these tiles are the machine cut sides and corners, standard size, standard thickness, all of which could mitigate the gaps between tiles. Since you are using foamboard, the cost is about even, perhaps slightly less. BTW...DMGInfo has recently produced a video about modular/standardized cavern tiles, using cardboard. His demonstration, I think, answers the question about doing these (at least cavern) tiles in cardboard.

Personally, I don't like DMG's style of modular cave, but only because it doesn't suit my style of dming. I prefer to only use physical representations during scenes. I go through most parts of dungeons and caves using theater of the mind. I then set up scenes when an encounter happens. In this style, I prefer the versatility of my style of cavern pieces. His style is more for setting up an entire dungeon that sprawls out across an entire table. Though this suits many people, it doesn't work for me.
