Here is my completed forest area leading to the cave/caverns encounter I have posted previously. Any suggestions or comments, feel free. Mini's and Chimera added for scale.

Second post with 3 more pics. Stopping for a little campfire and rest. Nevermind the Ogre archers (still need to be finished painting them) hiding under the trees.

Third post as they approach the cave. More Ogres hiding and raining down arrows onto the party! I made the boards out of cardboard and texture paints. The trees are a combination of Woodland Scenics, 3-D dungeon tile trees printed out on cardstock and some leftover after-Christmas garland and decorations.

I like the cone shaped trees also. Nice simple solution for a low hassle tree setting.

I would like to say when I do a larger scene like this great example I sketch it out! Sadly I am way to organic a crafter. It is truly (for me anyway) a simple matter of starting on something the size of say a CD and letting it grow from there. Now that I think of it maybe trying the sketching idea may not hurt! Lol

I like the cone shaped trees also. Nice simple solution for a low hassle tree setting. Thanks. These are very easy and quick to make. Just download and print out on cardstock. They have them with and without snow, plus a lot of other terrain. The only drawback is you have to pay for them, but they aren't too terribly expensive. I have found the time saved is worth it. Here's the link to the site I downloaded them from: www.3d-dungeon-tiles.com/index.htm

Whats the cave made from? The cave is made of a piece of Styrofoam that I believe protected a computer or a monitor or some electronic device. I glued the two styro sides to it to give the archers some cover. Then covered it in white glue and then painted it. There is a thread somewhere on this forum that shows what I started with. The base is cardboard with hot glue highlights and texture paint.

Awesome, all around. man i need to get crafting larger pieces like this but i kinda have a fear of messing them up! the scene here is great! Thanks. Do not be afraid! This was my first piece of outdoor terrain and I thought the garland and stuff would look kinda goofy, but it turned out better than expected. Besides even if you do mess it up you can just start over. Start out doing just one piece and see how you like it. Once you jump in and try it, you'll be surprised at how well it turns out! Go boldly forward and craft!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously just give it a whirl. Worst case scenario you are unhappy and toss it. Thanks to the very smart idea of using recycled materials its cost is minimal!
