Reminds me of a ship I was building. Mine was lower to the ground though...mine was more 2.5 though, with heavy 3d elements.

Here's as far as I got with mine. I opted not to make any lower decks, as i figure most of what happenef on top deck would require minis, while below decks are rp events. But seeing your 3D ship makes me wish I had gone in another direction. And here's the same ship with the mid section removed. I made it modular in case I wanted a smaller ship. The Aftcastle comes off as well to show captains quarters. But thats it. As I said, seeing yours, I may have to rethink my old project.

I built this from the water line up but it has no real playability inside the cabins!

It's a bit wide than it should be in scale but that's so I can place cannon models on it and still be playable. It's 16x8 at the shoulder. So far the progress

Lol...glad to see my craft space isn't the only disorganized one.
it looks good so far. I actually made mine pretty wide to accomodate battles on deck. I also haven't bothered to put up rails or the masts (I can put two on the long ship, vs 1 on the short version...

Yea I'm trying to decide mast or no mast and how to make the ships wheel Perhaps for a ships wheel a simple corrugated card board punch out circle (if you can get one or cut one small enuff) with just the ends of (smallest end) of tooth picks glued on a regular intervals. One more suggestion what ever you decide to do about the mast do yourself a favor and make it removeable! Saves tons of space and headaches when storing it

I will say this about his crafting space..unlike mine there are parts of his work surface that you can see! I cleaned mine just two days ago I had 5by 5 foot of emptiness. Now BOOM! a wastland of glue sticks exacto knifes dremel tools and of course cardboard!LOL!

If you get a mast, even for a mostly 3d ship, the mast should be removable. I planned for this in advance by plotting the location of the holes. Also, technically, the mast for a large ship should be angled forward slightly. Only slightly mind you. I'm not certain why, since I'm not a naval expert, but my breif research into ships when I started my project led me to that detail. I suspect its to aid in the forward momentum brought on by winds. Chances are you could craft a straight mast and no one be any wiser about details. But for me, I once had a naval ship officianado in a game once, where I was running naval combat. The experience makes me shudder to this day (back then I was a newbie DM), so when it comes to seafaring adventure, i get really detail oriented.

For the mast, magnetize it. You can get the rare earth magnets pretty cheap from lowes or home depot. Put one on the bottom of the mast, and one on the deck. Instant removable mast for play and storage.
