This is a project I've started to go along with the Pathfinder Skull & Shackles Adventure Path. I'm going to tailor my new adventures to have some sort of interaction with the sea. I didn't do a very good job documenting how to build the ships. But if you have questions, just ask. The masts are dowel rods and the grates are 1 ply with match sticks stuck through them. The smaller steps on the deck are really thin cardboard. I started out with 1 ply cardboard cut to the ship's outline and then added the decks to give me 2 ply. You can see from the lower image how I plan on laying out the port for gameplay.

Here's a couple of photos of the ships in production. I used the single ply ship template in the first photo for all four cargo ships. Then glued another layer of cardboard on top of it to form the top of the cabins (or inside the cabins with a little imagination).

I like it, but want my ships to be a bit more 3d.. Which is dumb, cause I don't have space for that..

I like it, but want my ships to be a bit more 3d.. Which is dumb, cause I don't have space for that.. I agree with you, but space is my issue. I've been trying to think of a better way to do this without actually building ships (which would be cool). I'm missing the feel of the 'below decks'. We played one adventure already with the ships and it worked out. So for now, I'm sticking with this.

I prefer 2.5 for everything. For me, I prefer having every feature shorter than the miniatures. Those ships are great, and the deck grunge looks great.

I like it, but want my ships to be a bit more 3d.. Which is dumb, cause I don't have space for that.. While I love the space saving concept I too am firmly in the "a little more ship and a little less imagination camp!" Maybe it's becuz I grew up around ships or I just love building models. It is a great concept and looks relatively easy to accomplish! I was thinking would it be too much to just make a second thinner layer from card stock for "below decks"?
